Default SCX10 Battery Choices?

Okay so my SCX10 is pretty much for mudding/water rides and mild bashing...

No hardcore crawling. I am running a 20t pinion with 87t stock spur with a Titan 550 12T and XL-5.

Should I get a 9.6V 8 cell hump pack off MaxAmps as the battery tray is made for a 6 cell pack? I am worried running 9.6V would burn out the motor very fast. Anyone with experience here?

Or should I go with 7 cell 8.4V and figure out some way to hold it down better (it keeps flying back out the rear).

Currently I am just running it with a standard 6 cell 7.2V.

Not planning on using LiPO as this ESC does not have a LVC and if I get an external one that will defeat the waterproof setup I'm after.

What are you currently using to hold it in place?

Well the stock tray is a plastic composite molded deal that has these ribs around it to hold a 6 cell pack. Velcro straps are used to tie them down and since the ribs are surrounding it the battery stays in place.

I put a 7 cell in there and the power of it just throws the battery out behind the rig if I punch the throttle too hard even when I velcro all the way down.

Leaning on a MaxAmps 8 cell 9.6V which is the most the XL-5 can take but wondering how long the Titan 12T will last with that many amps going to it....
