Default G-38 or crrc 40cc kit , that is the qestion

I have a Giant Super Sportster and cannot decide on an engine. I Like the Zenoa because of it’s reputation but, it seems heavy. I have looked at the crrc 40cc kits and like the Price and the weight but have not heard any feed back if theses are any good. My budget is about 300.00 for an engine

Any feedback is welcome, thanks

You can find used G38's for under 200 dollars. Nice and reliable and perfect for the GSS. Pick up a used one, send it to Ralph at RCIgnitions so he can lighten it up by taking the flywheel off and putting his electronic ignition on it. You'll be right at your budget or maybe twenty dollar bill or so over.

I had a G38,, the only way I would recommend the G38 is if you could get the weight down by 20 oz, and that's not going to happen , and if so it would still not have the power other 35cc or 40cc have today,, for the money you would have to put into it I would just buy some other engine !!!!!,

the 2 lightest would be the Brison 40 or ZDZ 40,, the highest quality in that size would be a MVVS/ Evolution 35 or 40, or the Roto 35,,

on a good point, today I DID see this plane fly with a Fuji 32cc and it flew very well !! but if it was my plane I would want a bit more power than the Fuji 32,, if you could find a MVVS 35 or one of the other engines it would be great..

Hi Lamar
Crrc pro engines are excellent value for money, I run a 45cc in my Hangar 9 P47 and it runs perfectly.
Lots of guys run Crrc pro's in our club.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Here is another RC Initions G38. It would do very well. It flys my Hanger 9 P-47 like a bullet.
I might add, I got this engine off ebay for $175.00 then sent it to Ralph and he converted it for $150.00. for a total of $325.00.

Ralph's conversion of a G38 can lose 20 ozs and more depending on how strict a diet he puts it on. With your somewhat limited budget check with Ralph as he might just have a second hand G38 for sale, then have him convert it to EI and you can rest assured that anything he sells you will be in excellent mechanical condition. My little G20 from him weighs 32 ozs including lightweight muffler and ignition.

Thanks for all the info.

I think I will try the crrc 40cc kit, even though deep down I think I should go with the G-38

I have come to recognise that those deep down gut feelings are seldon wrong, anyway whichever engine you choose enjoy it .

If you go with that G 38....you will always have parts and people that will work on it! Capt,n

So I got the crrc 40cc kit the other day and it looks nice. All the components look well made and went together easily and quickly. However I have had a few issues, during assembly I had to “chase the threads” for the prop adaptor, which was not a big deal for me, but could have been a problem for someone who doesn’t own a metric tip and die set. The other problem is that the plastic bracket for the Hall Effect sensor broke after it was installed, which should not be a problem to fix or I could see if the company will replace it.

I currently have it mounted on the Giant Super Sportster with the mount that comes with the crrc. I need to make a spacer because it seems like it's going to be tail heavy and the distance from the firewall to the prop hub is only about 5 inch and is supposed to be about 7 inches.

I might post a pic later

I have G38s but that 40cc kit is intriguing. You get to see how simple a machine these thing really are. gives you a totally different perspective if you haven't fooled a lot with the guts.
