Default Duellist 2/60

TO ALL WHO ARE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING THIS KIT:

What we called the "Super Duellist 2/60 Mk II" was a collective effort of our little group of Duellist fans, with the intention of getting a larger version of the Duellist 2/40 Mk II suitable for the 60-90 size engines. We thought that by banding together to share the development costs and purchase the material in bulk, we could get the best prices. Did we succeed? Well, we put the kits out the door right at $185, plus postage, Pica sells the smaller Duellist 2/40 for $200. You decide.

I am still getting one to two requests for the kit every week. Sorry, there are no more. The subscription to buy was closed about 14 months ago, and the last kits were shipped in April of 2003. We have absolutely no intention to make any more.

That does not mean you can not buy the kit.

Northeast Aerodynamics, the company that makes the Twin-Air series airplanes, intends to produce the airplane kit. John Marien, the owner of Northeast Aerodynamics, has told me he will probably change the name to "Duel-Air 2/60" to tie it to his existing line, but it will stil be the same airplane.

If all you who are wanting this plane will direct their questions to //SEE NEXT POST// we might be able to light a fire under John's chair, and get the plane into production sooner. He already has all the drawings and cad files for it, just needs some urging.

URL in the last paragraph is John's email, you can check the product line at www.ne-aero.com .

Finally, don't call me, I'll ca... Excuse me. Don't call me, call John. Thanks.

Bill.

Just got a note from John Marien. For queries on the Duel-Air use this email address:

[email protected]

The other address still goes there, but he's set this one up just for this plane.

Thanks.

Bill,

I'm considering a pair of MVVS .71 engines for my Duelist 2/60. Rear exhaust, short tuned pipe.

I'd appreciate your opinion on them.

Thanks,
...jim

Jim:

Why are you being so conservative? The rest of us have YS 140 Dingo engines on ours. And we're outrunning the boys flying their turbines. How about a low pass down the runway at 230 mph? And that's on take-off. With a shallow dive the planes are fast.

Haw.

Seriously, the MVVS 71 engines should haul the plane smartly. With the correct props, and careful building to keep the weight down, might even hover.

Dingo?

Speed is what I like. (I also fly DF jets.)

Do you recall what the ground clearance to the prop shaft is for the 2/60? I'd take a look at the plans myself, but they're still in the box, along with everything else. I may (note: may) get at it this winter.

I read a review of the engine and the reviewer mentioned that he used an 11x6 prop at 15,800 rpm and got 9 lbs of thrust. [sm=eek.gif] I figure with two of 'em, it should go good.

Oh yeah, it's a .77, not a .71.

Thanks,
...jim

Jim:

The "Dingo" is YS' latest hot rod 1.40 supercharged four stroke.

With the gear legs as drawn you can just clear a 14" prop on the 2/60.

And with 18 pounds of static thrust you can do a sloppy (heavy) job and still hover. But woe be unto the tail toucher who loses an engine while doing it.

Glad you're starting on yours. We were supposed to have the first (so far as I know) Super Duellist flying this past weekend, but company came. And stayed.

That settles it. If you're putting in YS 1.40's then a couple of saito 1.20's will work, because I already have them. I've been debating on ST .75s or something around that size, but I would have to buy them. Money is short right now since this years entire RC budget is going into a used mill from a friend, he is breaking into CNC. Gotta finish the jug and corsair first.

W.R. has seen 'em already:

They will fit fine, if it looks like weight will be an issue, I'll go with FIRE .61's.

This is one of the projects I'm using as an excuse for not completing (or even starting) my SD 60. This is my Bobcat Twin that I was suppose to maiden yesterday, along with Lonnie's SD. The Bobcat has a pair of OS 1.08s, on-board glow, Spring Air retracts, gear door sequencer, 10 servos, and weighs 18 pounds. Well, Lonnie had to cancel and I had a throttle servo burn out at the field. Turned out I needed to make a few other adjustments before flying it, anyway. Packed it up after taking these pics. We're going to try again to maiden both this twin and Lonnie's SD this Friday (6/18).

Crash:

The two-stroke 80 engines should do nicely on the SD 2/60.

I am fortunate to have one of the Bobcat's as well. I was showing the owner (Twinman) how to do an inverted flat spin with it and was so flat that it was barely coming down with each turn, the only problem that Twinman had was when he heard me say OOOPPPS and it took a lot of stick moving to get it to fall out. I am glad that I was fairly high going into the spin.

Twinman decided a little while later to give me first chance to buy it and I took him up on the offer.

Where does one get a Twin Bobcat? Or are they from someone's imagination?

Don:

They were a product of "Texas Twins," which has since been sold to a fellow in Florida. Haven't heard that he has put any of the twins in production.

Keep an eye on ebay. One of the SD 2/60 kits should be showing up there very shortly.

An SD on eBay? Yours?

Last summer one was offered on eBay, as I recall it ended up being sold privately.

It's mine. I've finally com to the realization that between my building and my flying skills, the 2/60 is more than I can handle. I think my Twin air and my duellist 2/40 will do me just fine.
