Can you identify this twin gas engine & help with jiggering servos
HI i have this engine on one of my customers Vought F4-U Corsair its a scratch built by an individual perhaps more thatn 25 years ago, as we have removed all Kraft servos, receiver and battery al from kraft, we updadted to newer servos and got the engine started, my dad (Miguel) insists it looks like a Tartan and an old friend of ours at the field states the same but we are not sure and also if any one isfamiliar with this engine any tips on setting up correctly as its twin carbs and we are having issues with the aileron servos jiggering and i also have added pictures of the EI that was design for it, as well we have a Spectrum DSM radio, i was told DSM has issues with channel 1 with gas engines, well if anyone or manny of you guys can help we appreciated and here are some pictures, happy holidays and happy landings

I hope an admin moves this over to the gas section it would be very interesting to learn how to adjust those dual carbs and find what type engine that is.

Do a post also in the engine section, I don`t think that is a Tartan. I have never seen a black Tartan.

Well, it should be in the engine section. You were right to begin with.
Let's see if I can put it back there, and if that mod will leave it where it belongs. After all, it's only about an engine. Not really about anything else. Cross your fingers..............

Not a Tartan engine, looks like Echo weedy cylinders, could be a older BME or anything in a industrial conversion, maybe even a Echo cst engine,a twin saw engine, rare, good luck, someone will recognize it.

It's a Horner twin, a friend of mine had bought the remaining stock back in the early ninies and was replacing the stock cylinders with Homelite 50cc jugs. I flew a stock engine in a Ace 33% Extra 230, had about the same power as the G62. I would suggest that you replace the ignition with a RCEXCEL unit for about 60 bucks and solve your problem. The shielding is so much better on these modern ignitions.
I just set both carbs the equally and tweeked the get best running. Both carbs are connected to the same crankcase space so the individual adjustment isn't all that critical as one might expect.</p>

Could be a very early Horner with Kawasaki cylinders, the Homelites had the spark plugs on the top..The Kawasaki cylinders matched the shape of the case at the base, later Horner cylinders did not...Later .Horner cylinders have separate heads and vertical spark plugs..

It has the old Model Electric coils in the Ignition.I do not no who built the ign,I thought I had seen them all. As said above best to replace Ign with RCEXL,make sure you get spark plug caps to match you spark plugs.

Goat your system looks to be set up simple. We are trying to get a handle on what all that in the box is to see if we can add some type of filter, or something so it will not affect the aileron servos. We have been told to twist the aileron leads around magnets to reduce the interference, but that did not fix another flyers issue at the field that suffered with the same issue so i have a feeling we will have the same results. The system it has now works great except for that one issue with the ailerons but if you can shead some light on how you have yours hooked up it would be great. Thanks in advance.

RE: Can you identify this twin gas engine & help with jiggering servos
Yoadrian,
The Horner engine is in a Cap 232. 94" Ws,So servos were fairly far out
in the wing,For the wing servos I used 3Conductor Shielded wire,22Ga,
For the Ign,I used a CH syncro spark with the rubber boots and had no problems,
Now as someone mentioned you could use the RCexl ign,You would have to
find a way to mount the pick up as the Horner's magnets were on the back of the hub.
You might even be able to use the pick up as installed on the Horner,Some of the
pick up's are reveresrd,I noticed in your pictures it appears Ign is close to engine,
I keep mine about 12" back.If you had a newer 2.4 Radio I believe your problems would
be limited,Hope this helps,
Bob
