Default Polishing Engine

Hello all,

I'm very new here and specifically signed up to ask for advice regarding the following situation (I'm not from CA so pardon my English.. ).

Someone gave me an old Enya 19 VI 4006 out of a heritage, and it was in a real bad shape.
I have just finished taking it apart and cleaning it, but the alloy has oxydised terribly so I'm looking at a rather 'greyish' engine.
It is running really, really well and has plenty of compression so I'm quite happy as is, but for the cosmetics of it (trust me, it looks REALLY bad) I would like to polish it.

Has anyone ever polished a model engine?
Could you share your experiences with it?
And does anyone know where I could download an old manual for this engine?
Also, does someone know how old this engine is?

Thank you very much in advance!

If you do a search on RCU for "coolant" you should find a thread on "cooking" your engine in automobile coolant overnight in a crockpot. This will restore an engine to like new.

TNRabbit is talking aobut cleaning engines in anti-freeze. I have done this several times and yes it does remove cooked on material and carbon quite well. It does not do any thing for the aged greyish oxides on an engine.

What I have used to shine up a case a bit is some 3M polish fiber pads ScotchBrite type (different diameters available) three different colors denote 'grit' green. red, & brown and get the ones that attach using the RoLoc system. (The ones with just a velcro-type never center just right and vibrate in a die-grinder at 20m +rpm)
I like the green and red in small diameter.
A good product I have used for years for polishing and material removal.

AND if you are a real NUT....check this out for detailed instructions: http://www.macdizzy.com/polishing.htm

Thanks mikenlapaz, I was having a brain fart there on the anti-freeze. It was early!

Mikenlapaz,

that was the best advice I have had in a long time.
Glad I signed up.
I'll try to locate those 3M products here in Holland, shouldn't be too difficult.

Hablo espanol muy pocito but..

I've not had that model Enya 19, but have had some earlier ones which were quite grey. Maybe they are supposed to be that way.

Find someone who reloads ammunition and has a cartridge case polisher. Toss it in the polisher for a day or so. (plug exhaust & carb)

I found that a dremel with a wire brush works wonders for cleaning gunk off an engine. Here too, its a good idea to cover the carb.
