Default What car should I Buy?

Can anyone help on what car I should buy.

I am looking a the off road section, but have no ideas what to get.

I have never had a rc car before, but do fly rc gliders so i have all the radio gear.

Would i be best off with nitro or electric?

What are the pros and cons for both types?

any help would be great.

Thanks

Neil

To start with, you will need a surface radio. The legal frequencies for surface and air are different.

Are you looking to race? What terrain are you planning on running? How well do you maintain your equipment (preventative maintenance wise)? What is your budget?

The answers to these questions will help guide the correct answer.

Sorry I don’t understand by surface radio. Does that mean a different type used to those in rc aircraft?

I have a JR 5 channel receiver and a JR 347 transmitter.

I am not looking to race at the moment, just a bit of fun, but don’t want something that I will get board with after a week. I would be using it over mud and grass hills, and possibly a small amount of tarmac, but mainly off road.

I will try to maintain my equipment as best a possible. I know that nitro means maintenance (I had a nitro helicopter)

I am looking to spend about £250

Thanks

Neil

It is not legal to use aircraft radio frequencies to control surface (car or boat) vehicles. For the terrain (and price range), I would recommend a vehicle such as a traxxas nitro stampede. It has sufficient ground clearance for off-road action (grass, mud, etc).

I Know your radio bands are different if you go to your local hobby shop and the could tell you what the surface frequencies are I would recommend an electric because in the winter it can be difficult to get a nitro engine started and they are much harder to adjust to get decent performance out of it. I would not be able to make an educated decision because I don't know what is available.
