Moki engine mount
Hi, has anybody tried the Moki radial backplate style engine mount on their Moki 2.1. It is fairly expensive at $50 and looks to be a bit on the heavy side. If anybody has the weight or any other inputs on this mount it would be greatly appreciated.

John,
I meant to reply by email but got a little too quick with the delete key.
I've run the backplate radial mount when I needed the stand off (Giles 202), It's nice because it's so rigid. It is heavy and troublesome running the throttle push-rod when the engine's on it's side (like with Pitts style muffler). I drilled a lot of large holes in mine.
On my little Cap I wanted to put the huge motor on without adding lead to the tail. So I mounted the motor as close to the firewall as possible. I made my own backplate mount out of 1/4" aluminum. Looks like an "X" with a hole in the middle, not pretty but it works. It attatched to the exhisting backplate with longer screws, mounts at the ends of the arms. I made it by chain drilling the outline, connecting the holes, then cleaning it up with a file. Took about 2 hours.

Check out the pictures of the OS 35cc mount. Nice neat holes with no strength degradation. Servos for the elevator and rudder in the back might achieve the same solution or better yet one of thise Ohio RC "heavy as a truck" tailwheel kits.
