Here is a link to the thread on my G&L P-38:

And here are a couple of pics. I guess G&L likes it since they used the pics of my plane on their site.
BTW, yes it is listed in the market for sale.

Did you change the boom spacing? Pictures I've seen in the past looked like the booms were too close together. That picture is no longer on their web site (White Lightning I believe). Others speculated (dont know for sure) that they were designed in close like that to be easier to fly. Any opinion on that? The price sure seems right. It just didnt look right in some of the pictures I looked at so I passed. Since I havent seen one up close, I cant say whether or not it was just the picture or not.

Edwim on mine I spaced the wing as the plans showed. It looks close enough to me. The kit is not accurate to scale. but close enough for me. I didn't want to spend a yearor so to build a real scale bird. I will try to get some pic later today.

Someone asked if the booms were too close together, but I think the vert. tails are out of scale (too large). Sometimes kit makers do this to ensure the plane has enough control authority and stability but it looks over done on this plane. Not to say your model isn't magnificent--it looks awesome! I have a Royal P-38 (72" wing) I'm refurbishing and it is the same way, but not quite as extreme.

Look at the March 2004 issue of Air and Space Smithsonian. There is an article on Glacier Girl, with lots of pics and a couple of those show her flying with Porky II (a P-38L, like most models, it has the larger oil cooler intakes). Some good detail photos. Also, if I can learn how to use my computer and scan them in and send to you, I have a s***load of great detail shots of PorkyII from 2 years ago when she was at our local warbird airshow (Hickory, NC). Nothing, but NOTHING, sounds like a P-38 at full boogie--make a grown man cry.

To check the scale outline of the G&L P-38 why not get a set of the Art Johnson plans it is supposedly derived from? These are supposed to be scale. When laid on the plans the outline of tail booms match up very well. The wing cord has been widened, and the span stretched. You can easily check the boom spacing if you have the Johnson plans on hand.

Well I suppose if I were to do a contest scale job I would choose a different plan/kit. But I'm more interested in an everyday flyer. Some pictures I saw in the past made it look too far out of scale. I'd like to think I wasnt being to annal about it, maybe it was just the picture angle and lighting. From what I've seen in this thread the G&L looks close enough for me. Would a couple of saito 120's do for power?
