Some are 4.8V only. I recently got one that says 4.8V or 6V

I'd use 4.8V to be on the safe side.

Jim,

With the new twin-magnet Vlach (or MVVS) ignition systems you can use from 4.8 to 6.0 volts of nominal pack voltage.

This would mean either a 4-cell, or a 5-cell pack is good.

With a higher primary voltage, the secondary voltage would be higher, which does mean a stronger spark.

No, Paolo.

If ignition occurs, a stronger spark will not make more performance.
It does offer slightly easier starting in border-line mixture situations.

This means the engine, before it is perfectly adjusted, would be more likely to fire.

...Less flipping is an improvement.
