Removethe sticky stuff after peeling off old monokote?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the sticky stuff ofter removing some old monokote with a heat gun?
I had to peel off the monokote covering off of my PBY after the previous builder got glue and denting up the wood on the wing. I was sanding it and noticed that there is a sticky substance on the wing that I need to figure out how to remove so the sanding will go better.
Thanks,
Tom

I've had pretty good luck with a product called "Goof-Off", available at hardware stores, Home Depot, etc. It comes in a pretty small can, and is made to remove marking (like graffitti), sticky glue, etc. It's pretty strong stuff, and will remove paint, dull plastic, etc., but I've used it for what you describe, and seems to work.

I had good luck with brake cleaner in the spray can. It melts the glue and color out of the wood onto the rag. It so far has not hurt the other side of the monacote or anything else I have sprayed it on. I missed the fuse side and sprayed the Rx and it did not discolor or damage it in any way.
