All things OS .18
this thread is for the os.18 motor, i see alot of different threads asking about the motor and i figured why not just have one thread about what fuel you use, glow plugs, mods, tuning, and trouble shooting
I'm planning to get one after my 2.5 dies, and i was wondering what the most popular fuel and glow plugs are being used?

RE: All things OS .18
I just pu t one in my revo. I ran first tank at idle. I let it get to temp and shut it down and let it cool for 1/2 hour or so. Did that throughout the first tank. I then Let it get to temp (around 200) and tried to drive it around very slowly as the book says. the temp would imediately shoot to 235 so I would then let it idle and it would cool back down. LSN too lean?

RE: All things OS .18
I broke mine in per the manual and it never got above 240 through out the whole procedure. Now after a gallon or so through it and one tune it stays between 235 to 240 depending on the weather. I have it tuned a little on the rich side but after a couple of passes it picks right up and from that point on it is pulling the front wheels with just a tap of the trigger...........GW

RE: All things OS .18
Never had that problem. Mine starts better warm or hot..........I run Traxxas 20% and Hobbico ARO. I change the air filter about every hour of bashing. If I am running in dirtier than normal conditions I change it more. We were running in crushed limestone Sunday, what a mess. I will never do that again. It took 2 hours to clean the truck. I realized how much more low end torque the TM has. The limestone pile was about 15 to 20 feet high and really steep. Out of the 3 trucks running I had the only OS and also was the only one who could make it all the way to the top..........GW

RE: All things OS .18
had my maxx out today and ran about 1 1/2 tanks through it (first time out for a good run in 6 months) ran the first tank with the body off, ran great didnt get hot or anything on a hard run, second tank put the body on and i haven't really ran the body on it with hard runs so no holes cut yet, untill tomrow! made the other tank about half down and it started gettin warm, i dont have a temp gun, just more of a knowlege thing, took the body off let it sit a few mins then decided to just call it a day before i broke something!
far as the engine goes.. i love the thing very easy to tune even with the 3 needle set up... has great power when needed or wanted... the head has a cool flame job done with it(admit it we all got them because of them flames on the head!!)

RE: All things OS .18
Yeah, I have about 13 or 14 tanks through my OS.18TM now. I love the torque and speed that it has, but I switched from O'Donnel 20% to Traxxas 20% fuel when I ran out of O'Donnel. Now it seems to bog down when I give it WOT from a dead stop. It won't do wheelies anymore either. Would this be an issue with my LSN? Once it starts going, it takes off really nice, but when sitting still and I floor it, it bogs a lil then goes. Maybe too rich on the LSN?

RE: All things OS .18
my guess would be too rich on the low end, if its bogging down after idling
i had a question about their 2 year warrenty, are you able to send in a motor that has run its course, and is dead and get a new one, or are you only able to do that if it dies because of some freak accedent and having it only for a month or a couple weeks
also whats the average life span in gallons of a properly tuned os18?, how many gallons have you run through your os so far?

Cardgabe, I don't think fuel brands could make that much difference. If there both 20% they're most likely alot alike as far as content. I would check your backplate. Tighten it up or seal it. It sounds like the same thing that I was going through about 5 tanks into it. I have a pullstart and the screws worked loose on the backplate from pullin the rope and it was boggy. Check it out.

RE: All things OS .18
I am absolutely positively sold on this OS 18TM. It's got a bunch of power and just purrs so sweet at idle. I think I need to go taller on my gears though. I'm on the lid a lot. But that's what I get for trying to master riding out the wheelies!

The RB TM323 is much better and less expensive. Trust me, I have both.
