Big Block Revo Clutch reccomendations needed
I've just purchased a used Novarossi 528xr Engine for a revo. I'm looking forward to the overkill that this engine should provide, but I need to find a clutch.
This is my first Aftermarket engine, so I've never had to choose a clutch/flywheel before. I've come across the Werks and Fioroni clutch systems but I'm not sure what to think of them.
Also, the 528xr has an SG Crankshaft. Does this have an effect on the Clutch system I should use.
Thanks,
Mike

That engine is a killer!!! It is probably the best .28 size engine you can get on the market. I personally have the SH .28 Prospect 6 engine and I have used several clutch systems but none of them actually worked as effectively as The V6 clutch. Here is the link: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLMF1&P=7. it is kind of expensive for a clutch but it is well worth it, also the clutch engage can be adjusted to any strength you preferr withough having to take it apart. Best clutch system in the world, this will beat any 3 or even 4 shoe aluminum clutch. Hope this helps.

you should not worry about the type of crank it has. The only difference between a threaded crank and a SG crank is that there is no place to put the E Clip. Therefore you would have to use a screw in the end of the shaft to keep the clutch bell in place. I would also recommend you a vented 16 teeth hardened bell from Robinson Racing if you are ganna use the V6 clutch. The best ratio for big block engines I believe is 16 Bell and 38 Spur. Good luck

I had looked at the v6 a bit. What are the main benefits over the Werks clutch, they appear to work on the same principal.
Any other suggestions would still be very welcome.
The revo comes with a 16/38 ratio stock with the 3.3 motor. I'm thinking about starting with an 18/36 to add some stability while i'm getting used to such a powerfull mill.

The V6 is a bit different than the works although they work on the same principles. The V6 clutch is actually quite small but it is quite heavy and the centripican force and acceleration of the smaller radius adds stability to engines operating at high and low rpms. Also the Werks clutch is 4 shoes and can therefore only grab the inner circumference of the cluch bell a maximum of 280 degrees to 300 degrees. whereas the V6 clutch grabs the clutch bell at the full 360 degrees. This attribute allows the power from the engine to be transferred to the wheels instantly as the throttle is engaged. Also, the Werks clutch shoes is made out of rubber which melts at high speeds and the V6 clutchis actually made out of a ceramic material. I haver personally used the Werks clutch and its performance is the same as a 3 shoe aluminum. If you are going for a good clutch set up, go with the V6, you cant go wrong.

I need at least one other proponent for the V6. I'm reading good things from the magazine sites, but can't find much info on any of the forums.
Also, will I need to purchase the nut that holds the clutch bell to the SG crankshaft. I don't think the motor comes with one and it doesn't look like the clutch does either... are there any fancy options I can use in this area.
fioroni, anyone?

The Fioroni clutch is used heavily in the 1/8th truggy and buggy class which ar both known for insane motors in 7-10lb vehicles. Look on the Truggy racer forum.

I have used this clutch on my MBX5 and CRT truggy.

I use an M2CRacing shoe set. I haven't had much time on a big block with these shoes but they have worked perfectly on the 3.3 with a couple gallons now. It's worth a look at anyway [link=http://www.freewebs.com/m2cracing/]clicky[/link]

you dont have to go out and spend any outrageous money on a clutch set up i have the werks set up i thought it would be need to get the most outta my v spec on my revo and its worth less i have to pull the clutch every so often to check the set nut its a pain i run the 12 dollar new era 3 shoe flywheel and nut and mugen 1.1's and carbons and its an absolute monster.
as far as the gearing goes to start i would recomend 18/36 and starndard or wide ratio that will give you the best of both worlds plenty of grunt and to much tp end to really call it control. as for me i have fallen in love with the 20/34 gear and close gear ratio tranny teres not a jato on the planet that can run away from my revo..................and still wheelies on comand. good luck just dont waste you money on an expensive clutch buy several different gearing se ups and have fun

I have the mip revo clutch set with the holes so it engages quicker and harder on my picco .26max and it works great.I agree don't wast all your money on a clutch setup unless you want too.The mip clutch works great and they are cheap too.

Yeah you gotta gear up when you use a big block. I am using a 18/36T with the close ratio and it is still geared a little to low. I ordered the wide ratio gear set. I am using a OS 30VG.
