Default Fantom Engines

Hi, im looking at a size .15 engine.

The Fantom 15 rotary looks like a better engine by far then the OS cv-r 15 off road engine.

And it is cheaper!
can someone please let me know if i have missed something? the fantom engine with 40000 RPM and 1.25 hp for cheaper?

this makes me wonder if the fantom has performance before life?

what is the lifetime of a fantom 15?

thanks in advance

the .15 fantom that I put in my losi pulls the front wheels off the ground. to my knowledge it's a good engine, no problems yet. make sure your suspension is set up to handle it.

Proficient,

Everybody I've talked to about the Fantom FR15 says these motors absolutely rip!!!! If your concerned about longevity, consider this. The Fantom is not just a standard ABC motor, It's an ABSC motor.

The Silicone Carbide coating on the sleeve is slicker than snot and will definitely outlast the standard chrome coating on most sleeves. Put it together and you get a boat load of power and internals that should outlast other ABC motors.

Just don't rev its guts out for the first few tanks. But most important, read the manual that comes with the engine and follow it to the letter.

ok np.
should i run it offroad or on when im running it in?
HPI Mt racer.
also, i read you have to keep the heat sink as low temp as possible, and the best thing to do is get good airflow over it.
the problem with this is i have a big air filter and it blocks the heat sink 100% not letting air flow straight over it.
but at the back of the racer is a big cut out, is their a way i can get a etended pipe and mold it to the left so that air fromt he whole in the front screen can flow sraight over it?

Proficient,

I too have an NMT and I have the big Motorsavers filter. With the hole in your front window and the big cut out in the back, your heatsink will get adequate air circulation. As I mentioned, I have a similar setup to yours and my engine still runs on the cool side.

If you're really concerned about getting that filter out of the way, check out this link:

http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/s/...ntake_page.htm

It's kind of an odd setup, however it looks like it works. You be the judge.

Sorry, gotta put my $.02 in here proficient. I just finished building my Nitro MT Racer three weeks ago and put in the HPI .15SS with pullstart. It kicks ass! I finished 2nd, fourth and third and it was my first time racing and driving. The MT Racer has the power and torque you need built into the four-wheeel drive.

HPI built the .15 engine, which by the way is really an OEM'd Novarossi Italian engine I believe, for the MT series. If you want an engine with power, torques and flexibility for on-road or off I recomend the HPI.

I too went through many engines during my investigation and in the end an engine is like a *sshole - everyone has one that smells!

If your rich like me then just buy two cars and four engines and trade off between them!

hahaha not rich son! not rich at all!

just got abit of cash to play with, just the right amount.
ive ordered the fantom! and i believe its a good choice!
im sure the 15 ss would be perfect, but i have a fair bit of knowledge on the engines and have rebuild a novarossi cx 12 about 5 times.
the fantom looks like a damn nice engine with huge power!! and speed!

you say you race? do you race at a track in a competition?
i would be interested in racing but im not sure if their is a section for 4wd offroad .15

i know their is an offroad track and onroad track about 45 minutes from me.
i would be interested in racing

so far i love my racer, just want a damn nice engine!
dont want to have to buy more then 2!
and this is my second.. but i think i have made the right decision with the fantom .15..

Proficient,

As I mentioned, I'm looking into getting the Fantom .15 and I believe there are a few others around here that are also considering it.

Once you get it all dialed in, would you give us your impressions of the engine? I'm currently working on the suspension on my NMT however the engine is next up and I'd like to hear what you think of the motor. Thanks!

I believe that engine will fit with no mods. Here's an exploded view of the motor along with a closeup of the shaft. I hope it helps.

hrm im not 100% sure.
my old engine (cx12 novarossi) was perfect except had to take of the propellor hub.
on this engine under the propeller hub it looks like their is a cut on the shaft for the hub to sit on.

just looks differant so im not sure eh ;\

If you are looking for a .15 get the CVRX OS motor it puts out about 1.22 hp but is a little on the spendy side

I can't say from personal experience, but I've read testimony from people who have, and they say the Fantom is more powerful than the O.S. engines.
