Older H9 Sukhoi w/100?
Anyone out there have photos of a 100cc twin installed in the older H9 Sukhoi. I'm searching through the forums but coming up dry.
Edit: I did find a few shots of BME 102s and 105s installed, and reference to DA100s being installed as well, but no shots of that. The BME is smaller, plug cap to plug cap, and fits inside the cowl. i'm guessing the DA or DL100 would have the caps poking out. But if someone has a few pics, great.

VERY observant. Yes I did. The Edge cowl is more narrow than the Sukhoi. By the way this engine/plane combo is terrific. The Edge is scheduled for a couple modifications to the tail and then a DA85. I've heard some stories about the 85 shaking so I'm not in a big hurry.

yeah, I have a couple large singles at the moment, a ZDZ80RV and 3W80XI. I too was considering an 85 by either 3W or Da for this Sukhoi that is just now coming out of its original box...but i'm getting a bit tired of the shakin'...and thought I might go with a twin this time around.

Yes, I am quite sorry I went with the 85 on a H9 Sukhoi 26.
Switching to a BMW 102 right now, hoping for less vibrations...

A BMW eh?
Yeah, that is what I always liked about the BME twins, they were narrow like 80cc twins, and would fit inside the H9 cowls without hackin em up.

RE: Older H9 Sukhoi w/100?
Ya know, contests have been won with the older Sukhoi, on a GT80, stock. Makes ya wonder, if converting one to EI for easier starting, saving a bit of weight, and running a very good carbon 24x10, and let it rev...wouldn't do it? The old Suk could easily be modded to handle one servo per aileron, and lightened elsewhere to help out too. I would think the margin would be significantly narrowed where thrust to weight is concerned. I'm just guessing here, but I'd bet the GT80 would spin, say a mejzlik 24x10 well over 7 grand, which gets it right up there in thrust by comaparison to the newer single 80s and 85s. And I have yet to experience an smoother running twin than the GT80.
Hmmm....

My first H9 Sukhoi had a GT80 on it. Very smooth and adequate power. I replaced it with a BME 102 and if I recall I did have to cut a small opening on the left side.

Here are the only pics I have of one that belonged to a good friend. Looks like the plug was stuck out on the left side. These pics were taken several years ago and at the time it seems like he indicated it was too much power. I'm sure a well executed throttle curve would take care of that today. I just pulled the G62 off mine, planned on going with the DA85, but since you brought this up, I may put my old 100 on it instead. Thanks

Yes, but I can almost guarantee you the plug cap (left) is rubbing the inside of the cowl. Eventually this will be a problem.
With the DA100 you will have the same situation with the right cap. I didn't want anything rubbing the cowl on mine and decided a small cutout with some coaming to dress it up would be preferable to the eventual (irreplaceable)cowl damage.
Everyone's opinion of "overpowered" differs. I don't feel that mine (DA100) is overpowered. It flies pretty light and when you get to this level of model you probably have learned to use throttle management anyway. My SIG 76" Suk with the G62, now that was overpowered. It flew like a brick. A fast brick but a brick none the less.
