Default What model of RC is this? Help...

This may seem kind of dumb, but I need help identifying what model of RC buggie this is.

I believe it is an RC10, but what one? I know it's old, but not sure how old. A buddy of mine gave it to me, and despite it's very rough looking condition, the damn thing runs like a champ. If I could just find out what model it is, I would be able to maybe find some parts for it.

Here are some pics. I can get more if needed.

[link=http://phatxj.com/temp/rc1.jpg]Pic 1[/link]

[link=http://phatxj.com/temp/rc2.jpg]Pic 2[/link]

Any help would be appriciated. I hope I am in the right forum and don't get yelled at for being an idiot

Oh, and just for the record, the forum software screwed up my username [:'(] it's not supposed to be like that, it's supposed to be "Klaüs"

That's an old Associated RC10 Gold Tub. A classic...

Parts are still readily available, though, brand new through http://www.towerhobbies.com or direct from http://www.teamassociated.com as well as a zillion other shops.

It really doesn't appear to be in bad condition by looking at your pics. The aluminum chassis gets scratched up in a day, so that one really doesn't look bad. The rest of it could probably just use a good disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly/lube.

Thanks a ton man! Yeah, I figgured it was a classic

Okay, so if and when I'm searching for parts, I just search for "Associated RC10 Gold Tub" ?

I am going to dissasemble it and clean 'er up.

The only other problem I have with it is, it seems to get a lot of interference. Like even when I'm not touching the controls, it's sputtering... sometimes trying to go without me controlling it to, and it will jump from forward to reverse. I'm not sure if that's an issue with the speed control, or the radio/receiver? Who knows....

Thanks again man.

Some of the sputtering could be the throttle trim on your transmitter. The other stuff could just be junk gunking up the speed control (probably not the radio). By the time you get it all apart and cleaned up, you might find that your glitching goes away when you get it back together - you never know...

As far as parts go, this is a good starting point:

http://www.teamassociated.com/misc/d...db_kitrc10.htm (parts list)

http://download.teamassociated.com/p...awing_10ce.pdf (drawings/diagrams)

You'll find tons of parts on eBay, or search http://www.towerhobbies.com with rc10. AE has just about everything available right from the website or phone. You can also use a lot of the newer parts from the rc10b2, rc10b3, etc.

Dude, thanks so much for the help

I guess I don't even really know what parts I want to buy for it.... I think the tires are a bit too big for it... either that or the gearing isn't low enough. Probably a combo of the both. It's almost imposible to get the tires to spin, but once it gets going, it moves pretty good. That's a good sign that it's geared too high and/or the tires are too big.

I think I might get some good GP packs, and some tires for it after I clean it up and see how it runs after that. I will probably re-do the wiring on it considering the wiring job on it is kind of ghetto.

I took some more pics of it, just for the heck of it.

[link=http://phatxj.com/temp/rc7.jpg]Pic 7[/link] [link=http://phatxj.com/temp/rc8.jpg]Pic 8[/link]

Another thing I thought was weird, the receiver has an obvious plug in for a battery pack...... I'm not sure if it needs one, as it works without it... Just not sure what thats for.

Those are stadium truck tires on there, which are probably gonna be a bit heavy for the stock buggy gearing... If you put a buggy body on there it's gonna look silly. You'll wanna be careful buying wheels for that one - maybe measure to be sure, but I think they had different size axles than the more current cars. You can still get wheels for it, but just be careful that they will fit.

That receiver plug is for a battery if you want to run one. Most receivers use BEC (battery elimination circuitry) that takes a bit of power from the main battery pack so you don't have to run a separate one for the radio gear. Normally in an electric car, you don't have a reason to run enough servos to need a separate receiver pack. On a nitro car, of course you'd need a receiver pack.

Here's one of my oldies. This is an RC10 buggy chassis (carbon fiber) with truck tires. I raced on carpet oval for a while:

Good lookin' rig there jrjr2u. So would that chasis be the same as the one I have pictured, minus the fact that yours is carbon fiber? Do you have any pics of it without the body on it? Looks sweet man.

Ah, okay... that makes sense. Do you have any ideas on a battery pack that would work well with this car, and that charger I have in the picture?

Okay...... when I get wheels for it, I'll make sure they'll fit. Actually, I figgured I would just get the ones that came on it originally.

A lot of guys run those RC10 buggies on oval track - carpet or dirt. You can buy (or make) conversion kits to run touring car springs and drop 'em closer to the ground. That old buggy that just fell in you lap has just about endless possibilities!

The crazy thing is.... I've had it for years, but never really did anything with it other than drive it around a few times. Then just recently, I convinced myself I was going to get a Nitro monster truck, which I still will. So lately I've been researching trucks (I'm torn between a Tmaxx and a Savage25) and after seeing all this support for RC and the hobby as a whole, as well as all the parts that are offered, I just knew I could find parts for this thing. I decided that I would bust out this old car of mine and see what I can do to make it run nice and good. I will still get a nitro truck tho.

Here's a quick question for you, mostly just an opinionated question.

Which nitro truck and/or setup do you think would be the absolute best for the sand? I'm talking like major sand dunes.

I recently moved to a new area, and we have a huge sand dune recreation area and I think it would be a blast to get a sweet RC truck and put some phat paddle tires on it and tear it up...... but I'm just not sure which one to get Money isn't really an issue..... it's just convincing myself which one would be the best is

My honest opinion? The buggy that you have fitted with some skinny ribs up front and some paddles in back would be about the best sand machine you'll find.

If you feel the need to a big 4 wheel drive monster truck with a nitro engine, the Traxxas T-Maxx is probably one of the top trucks.

I hate to bring an old thread back up, but I wanted to show you what I have done to this old car, mainly you Aliens8mycow since you helped me so much.

I finally got 'er done tonight, tell me what you think.

This was the first body I've ever painted, and I had a few issues with it, but mainly trimming it to fit was a major PITA. It was almost as if the body wasn't meant for the car.... but I guess it was. Regardless, I think it turned out okay.

Looks sweet!

I'm glad it all worked out for you! Those buggy bodies are tough to get trimmed up right - they seem to have more nips, tucks, curves, and who-knows-what than you ever dreamed possible. It looks like you did a great job with it, though, so it's worth every minute, and every last bit of frustration!

The only thing left to do now is take it out and run it hard!

Thanks Aliens!

Yeah dude, that body was a major pain... by the time I had it fitted on there, I had scraped paint off the inside of it in several spots, and scraped paint off of the chasis as well. Almost got a little too frustrated a few times...... my girlfriend was like [X(] the whole time I was fitting it

This was the first time I've ever REALLY worked on an RC car before, and most certainly the first time I ever painted a body.

I'm gonna run it hard tomorrow. I got a 7cell pack and a peak charger.

You're definitely hooked now!

Don't wreck it - it hurts bad enough when you beat up an RTR that didn't cost you any time and effort. Those little 'labors of love' tend to hurt a lot worse when you crash 'em!

Enjoy it! ...and let us know how she runs!

...tons of 'em on eBay. You'll even see one 'new in box' with the shrink wrap intact every now and then! The only problem is that they are starting to get a sort of collector status, and the prices are going up.

Thanks Nick!

They are always poppin' up on Ebay. In fact sometimes the prices are insanely cheap. Othertimes, someone will post a nicely restored one, and they will go for some decent cash....... like they should considering they are basicly a collectors item

There's several on there right now.

I don't plan on wrecking it, but we all know how that goes I just got my T-Maxx all ready to run too, so my RC10 is going to mostly just sit around and look good

RCU doesn't like those eBay links - **** actually means e b a y . c o m if you didn't have that figured out...

back to that last post, kla? -- you just can't make a 'shelf queen' out of a gold tub! That car was made for driving (not to mention it's been waiting to get back on the road for a long time). You have to at least get her out once in a while!

Yeah, I figured if someone wanted to use those ebay links, they would be able to fix em

Oh I plan on running it for sure...... but honestly, I'm not gonna be taking it out in the dirt and/or jumping it..... that's what I got the T-Maxx for
