Default BATTERY PACK HELP!!!!!!

Instead of building battery packs using sub c's could i instead use Ni-mh AA"s.

Dont worry about size and all that .

I am asking this because AA's are cheaper than sub c's.

Thankxx

yes you could, but you have an EXTREMELY low MAh pack, somwhere around 600mah. This would give you a runtime somewhere between 30 seconds and maybe a minute, lol.

you may get lower run times but with 6 sub-c cells you get 7.2v wit AA cells you get 9

this is incorrect. both Sub C's and AA rechargable batteries produce 1.2v each

Yeah ! Notice i typed "NI-MH" AA's.

There about 1800 mah's, over here in Aus sub c's are about 3.50 to 10.00 dollars each but there
1500 mah's while the AA's are only a dollar something!

I wonder if you can run two 6-cell AA packs in parallel to make a 3000 mAH, 7.2V pack... it'd be like $12.

I think sub-C's allow much higher current draw than AA's, so depending on application, it may or may not be possible to substitute.

Guys current draw from batteries, is a little dependant on size, but depending on what the Packs are used for, Yes 2 6 volt packs can be run in parallel BUT they should be matched, because if they are not, one discharges faster then when the difference is great between the 2, one goes high impedance, and works against the other pack... From a Ni-MH you should be able to discharge them at 2C under heavy load and they should be fine, as long as the temp of the batteries is watched. so if you have 1800 mah or even 2100 mah, you should be able to take 3.600 to 4.200 Amps out of them.

While AA NIMH are now available in the 2000mh+ sizes, I don't know what the recomended charge rates on them are. I've read that not all batteries are designed to be charged at 2-6 amps. My hunch is the AA's wouldn't like the high rate of charge/discharge demanded of a competition level rc. The AA 2200mh batteries I use in my radio transmitter are always charged at 1/2 amp or so.

It is my understanding that the quality sub c NIMH sold by reputable companies for rc racing are rated to handle the kinds of charge rates and amperage loads used in RC. Even cheaper quality sub c's are not always able to handle it.

I am not an expert, but I do know that not all batteries are created equal, even if the mh rating is the same.

i Definity know from experience that you can charge ANY battery at 1C. if you want to work the batteries you can charge them at 2C BUT you have to watch the TEMP, and make sure they don't go over 60 Degrees Celcius, if so, you may damage the chemistry inside.
