How "hot" is it getting?

Are you running stock gearing? Is something in your drive train binding?

As for a replacment. Check out the Castle Sidewinder.

Try lowering your gearing a bit, the RTR electronics are really just barely adequate IMO.

Maybe a small fan would help.

The best place to get help is here [link]http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/[/link] Do you know if your using a standard 6 cell battery? did you instal the 14T pinion your self? and if so your gear mesh might be to tight. Try loosing the gear mesh a bit. If you want to buy new ESC then you might as well get a 55T motor as well. Novak makes a grreat ESC motor combo for $114.00 Tower hobbies has it. Its the Novak Rooster crawler ESC 55T Motor combo. I hope this helps. Head on over to rccraler.com for a more in-depth crawler forums.

a good replacement ESC is a Castle SideWinder and it will hadle your motor and batter very nicely and it is only $76 new. Castle makes the best ESC's for crawling on the market and that is not just my opinion that is fact!![8D][sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Glad I could be of help. A loose gear mesh is better than a gear mesh that is to tight. You should be able to see a small amount of space between the pinion gear (small gear) and the spur gear (the big one) I usally just eyeball it but most people put a pice of paper between the gears to get the spacing right.

EDIT****

The truck should roll back and forth with ease with out any power to it as long as your using the stock ESC. ESC's with a drag brake will not do this and is not a good way to test the gear mesh.

Here is a good link you should read [link]http://www.teamassociated.com/basicshub/troubleshooting/stripped_gears07.htm[/link]

and a video tutorial [link]http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to/video/how-to-set-gear-mesh-on-a-remote-control-car-239621/[/link]

at best the stock esc will work good off a 7c (8.4v) or a 7c (9.6v) max. so if you have a 6c pack at 1.2v per sell you have a 7.2v pack.
the CC Sidewider or the Novak Rooster ESCs are both good ESC and around 80.00 each. you can get the rooster combo (esc/55t motor) for about 100.00
