How to fix a Super Tiger 60 or 90 If you have broken out the threaded holes in the crank case.
A friend of mine bought 3 complete ST 60 engines (at a swap meet) as parts and one ST 90 with both screw holes on the side of the crank case broken out and ground smooth. There were a total of 6 60 size crank cases in everything he bought. Three of the crank cases had either one or both threaded holes ruined.
If you had a tig welder and are good with it you could weld them solid and dril and thread them again. You would probably need a mill to clean up the mess.
We had no welder so here is how I proceeded.
On both the 60 and the 90 there is a lot of material remaining outside the exhaust port. I drilled into this area and threaded the holes for a 6 x 32 screw (allen cap screw hardened) The center of the two holes is 1.350" apart. See photo # 1
I then drilled a header for the same dimension. See photo # 2
The angle portion of the of the header where the holes came out had to be milled for the head of the Allen cap screw. See photo # 3
In photo # 4 the allen cap screws can be seen inserted into the header.
Now I just screwed the two together and ran the engine. Everything worked good.
Note: The exhaust port, header pipe, and muffler for both the ST 60 & 90 are the same.
To fix just one side just drill and thread one hole.
Hope this helpes someone.
