Angry K&b 61

For all you K&B fans; I have a very old(40 years old) K&B with the original square perry carb. while I have awesome top end and will idle forever,, it doesn't like midrange, I believe the head gasket is bad as it spits fuell like crazy. any help will be appreciated. This engine is in a Great Planes sport corsair,,,,,,,I know I know too much engine, but I can always throttle back when I get the mid range sorted out.

Are you sure the head is leaking? It could be residual oil coming from the carb spitting fuel. I've noticed a bunch of oil on the back of the engine after running real rich on the bench on some engines. Likely being that old of an engine, the carb may be in need of new o-rings and getting cleaned out. That is one thing Perry carbs are known for needing as far as maintenance.

You can get new gaskets from MECOA for any of the K&B engines. The K&B .61 is still being made and sold by MECOA too.

And you can get a special fitted K&B ,61 from Mr. Clarence Lee. I have one still new in the box, saving it for use someday. He does a PDP treatment in fitting it up. So I know it is a screamer.

I've got a Clarence Lee .61 on my Kwik Fli. Yup, it's a screamer.
