Multiple speed transmissions(more than 2)
is it possible?? if you had the room in the rc car, you think it would be worth it, cause then you could have a very high top speed that still as great acceleration.like a 5 speed :stupid:

3 speed is quite common in 1/8 on road car until early 90s. however as engine power and rpm increases the 3 speed system become impractical for racing.

Like he said.. not practical.
Real cars use 5-6 gears because their RPM range is like 1000-8000 tops on a HIGH END CAR.
On an RC car.. you got 3000-40000 7000 vs 35000!!
For racing.. heck you dont even need 2 speeds for small tracks!
Even on larger tracks. You'll get screwed if the car shifts during a turn on power! Thats a big (real car) racing no-no.
A real car has only one spur gear and multiple pinions (or is it the other way? ). But an RC car has a permanent engagement system. It will was a lot more energy.
The Kyosho MAD FORCE has 3 gears. That makes sense for a MT. 1) VERY short 2) Short 3) Tall.. for top speed.

And not to mention tracks that follow roar rules don't allow more then 2 speeds. Its against Roar rules.
But ram is right. One of the tracks I am curently racing at is not really a huge track. Back stragiht is about 80 foot. I don't need 2nd gear.
