gs storm 300+ degrees
I have this sucker dialed in with stock motor. It is really honkin' with the head temp over 300 plus in 40 degree weather. I'm running 20% nitro. Bottom end is fat, plenty of smoke. Will it last at this temp? It really seems to like these settings.

I find it hard to believe you are running well over 300, I would get a second temp gauge on it first...If that is the temp in 70/80 degree weather i wouls say forget it! I really think the temp reading is off 350 /400 your starting to melt.....

I'm using new temp gauge. One of those Radio shack deals. Should be pretty good? Running right about 310 degrees, And Strong too.

I 'm running McCoy mc-9 plugs. Have a gallon of fuel threw it so far. Broke it in pretty easy. Just seems to like the heat.
And I mean, likes it. Burbles, 'till I lean it out that much.
LOL

Hum......? Would a different plug, get the temp down somewhat, without a loss of performance?
There are a lot more powerful motors....but, on loose surface tracks, I have enough trouble keeping This thing hooked up. LOL
Maybe, Too many HP's can be a double edged sword?

I just broke mine in this weekend too. It started out so rich, it would hardly even move, then I leaned it out until I got it running awsome. Nice trail ouf smoke, awsome power!!! BUt mine if not running even close to that. Couldn't hurt to try another temp gun.

300 is HOT! Sound like you might have an air leak causing a lean condition or maybe the wrong fuel line. There are different size fuel lines, get the largest line you can get. Get some airseal from your LHS and seal off the carb base and backplate just to be sure that isnt the problem. If its a Force engine like the .25, they run good at about 310 and not much can be done to bring it down so you live with it. Maybe try richening the bottom end a little and try it.

As near as I can tell, there are no air leaks.
The engine will idle all day. Revs beautifully, then goes right back to idle.
Never stalls or runs weird. Only gets over 300 when I'm running hard (which is all the time) LOL
Cools back down to 210 ish at idle
Can I get the temp down using different plugs? Without a loss in performance?
Using MC-9 plugs. The color of the plug looks perfect.
For a cheapie stock motor, it is pretty stout.

Sounds like your not getting enough air flow?? are you running the car naked??? if your not are u running with cooling holes??

Excellent point. The body is pretty snug around the head. The only other opening is the fuel tank access.
Where are the most effective areas to cut, for optimal air flow, without turning the body into a total dirt intake/collector?

Most effective area to cut would be directly in the front and the back.
Try to make the rear cut just snug and make the front a tad larger. This will help get in some extra air and funnel it through the heatsink (drag is increased, yes).
210 is nice, but richen the HS 1/8 and try to stay under 275 to prolong the life of the engine. I dont doubt that its running well at 300, but you'll lose longevity.
I dont remember who, but someone told me that they actually run their rossi motors right arond 275-300 and said its running strong.
But I would still think twice.

This is just a thought.. it has worked for me. You might try adding a few extra ounces(2-4 ounces of castor in your fuel).

That is a good idea. castor is really slick stuff and it should help in cooling your engine.
Actually I think I'm gonna go down to that klotz lube dealership 11 miles away and buy me some fuel (if they sell it) and some castor oil as well!
I'll let you guys know how successful I am. MAybe I'll ask their expert opinion on car vs airplane fuel too! hehe (this pony is now decaying.. still getting beaten up lol)

Castor Oil
I noticed the Trinity Monster 20% has only 12% oil content. The additional castor DOES sound like a good idea bigbadbowtie.
My big block runs a little on the hot side as well, and I really don't think it's that lean. It helped alot getting a new cooling head installed from NOVA Products. With the same needle settings, same driving habits and the same outside temp the difference was night and day. I dropped from 280 degs down to 210 in a heartbeat. Still getting plenty of the white smoke and it's running very smoothly.
Obviously the addition of a larger capacity cooling head is a bit pricier than the castor oil method. Nuts! I should have tried that first... but the head does look pretty sweet

I think the extra castor helped. Put Dynamite pipe on it too. Running around
275 degrees now.
Maybe it is just because this new pipe is quieter, but I think it made the bugger slower? Is this possible?

Ok, After further review......LOL, it is faster.
I noticed that on Full throttle, the brake linkages were giving slight brakes on Full throttle.
Ended up changing the geometry on the linkages, And full speed ahead.
Can't wait for our track to finish thawing!

My fantom engine seems like it only runs good at 300 also but thats in 75 degree weather.I also use the radio shack temp gage but the engine puts off nice smoke and does'nt show signs of running to lean so I think maybe it's the temp gage's we're using.Maybe thats why my savage seems sluggish at 270 degrees?
