The MBX isn't clean anymore and life will never be the same.....You haven't lived RAM until you attack a BMX track with your 1/8 buggy, I insist you drop everything, call in to work, school, and find a track immediately...You must not delay the event...

hey i got a question about plastic and alcohol.
do you think over time the plastic will become weaker from alcohol kinda drying it out?
you a little more brittle? i use it but just wondering. im a neat freak and clean my rig after each run or each weekend run.

Packfan88:
Since I am not a woman I do not titter and say HeHeHe, instead it is a belly laugh, Haw! Haw! Or just "Haw" for short.
The component that makes plastics flexible will gas out over a period of time. That's what films up your car windows even though you don't smoke - and the upholstery does get brittle.
The harder the plastic the longer it takes, you probably will have trashed your plastic whatever long before it gets too brittle for normal use.

Todd,
My buggy looked the same way after I came with a run with the BMX's. But I broke a rear shock shaft in the process Gettin' some big bores now. BTW, what weights are you using?

I am using 35 weight with some pretty stout springs. works nice but I think Ill probably end up with maybe a 60 weight next, the 35 is a tad light. The reason for the filter on the exhaust line is because so much crap gets into the pipe, (oil, dirt) it keeps it from introducing crap into the tank and also plugging the pressure line.
Bill, thanks for the information on the plastic. I ALWAYS wondered what films the cars inside windows. I even had a brand new 1996 3000GT VR4 with leather interior that it happened in. I would take a white towel and wipe the inside of the windows and it was black! I thought the girl friend was stealing the car, and smoking like a train while driving it. So it WAS just my bloodlines that have descended from a long line of law enforcement, and made me paranoid to everyone around me just like my DAD.
I am a super freak about doing whatever necessary to clean my buggy . and rc cars after running them Packfan88, and never had a problem with it. I think it would take a million years for a buggy a arm to bio-degrade in a landfill, even if it was soaking in denatured alcohol. I don't know about anything beside DENATURED alcohol though. I don't use isotropic or any other variations. I can clean my entire buggy without disassembling it. I simply use a toothbrush and a cup ' denatured alcohol. If you have a air compressor, it looks like new, just drowned it in the stuff. I buy it in gallons now, gotta have it plus it cuts the nitro grease right off.

Getting a Emaxx huh? I know what you mean about waiting. I'm glad to not have found RC until I was 30, because now I can kinda afford it a little better than when I was young and BROKE. I am off to the BMX track.....The fence is only 4 feet high, and if I stay out of the mud, maybe nobody will say anything. You guys wont tell on me will ya? OK then, I am OUT. I will let you all know how round 2 goes if the track is open, or I get the nerve to hop the fence. Naw, don't want to ruin it, I'll wait till it opens. Then I'll TERRORIZE the place! ahahhahahahah

Alrighty then. Got some information for you on your Mugen RAM. Here is why the aftermarket diffs/clutch are needed. It takes tons of RPM like full throttle only to get the divelines to ALL HOOK UP. Its a great thing to roost all 4 tires in the dirt and throw dirt everywhere. And also this is where the car handles the best since AWD works when spinning unlike RWD. The Fioroni diffs give you up to 70% batter traction with just the center and front diffs installed. This is because the drive-train HOOKS UP all through the RPM range. Not just at full throttle where a vary small percentage of the time you are doing on a track. In addition they sell a "sliding clutch" that actually unlike the shoe type, has big valleys and grooves, so when it hooks up it's like a ON/OFF set up. BAM! engaged, let off the throttle and it comes apart...off. This type of clutch is needed once you get the diffs to get the most out of them. THESE FIORONI diffs is like night and day difference in traction. They are high dollar, but once you see the internals, and realize why it took a major auto manufacture to even make them. We are taking a 5 AXIS CNC machine to machine these things. They are as intricate as ANY machine work I have EVER seen. The inside gears are unlike a conical gear and more like...a "worm gear" if that makes sence. They are called torque sensing because as pressure builds on the "worm gear" it in effect "locks out" and puts the power DOWN NOW. When it's woking in normal conditions, it works like limited slip. COOL HUH? Yes 200.00 is a GRIP, but for the first time I can appreciate the unbelievable machine work that was needed to produce these and think the money is well spent. The cost of the 5 AXIS machine to make these is in the multi millions! This is the highest tech part of any 1/8 buggy if these are in your car.

Who sells these awesome diffs? I know GS is the distributor but who wants to pay list price through them. They have to be cheaper somewhere else.

I am going to try through Ace hobby they are distributor and I have purchased my Mugen kit through them as well as other items. I have been pleased with the service from them so far....
I tried to call GS direct and buy from them they wouldnt sell them to me. They refered my LHS who wanted full retail, as well as also having a big attitude about a special order that costed me 600.00. Then again my LHS is INSANE.
