OS .12 Runs for a while then quits! Any suggestions?
I just bought an old NXT w/OS.12. Just to play with.
I can get it to run for about 3 or 4 minutes then it just quits. Does'nt bog down like it's loading up, does'nt speed up like it's lean. As a matter of fact, it always happens when I let off the throttle to enter a turn. By the time I retrieve it and get back to my starter It'll start back up and run for a few more minutes.
One time it ran for maybe 8 minutes on a rather small course I set up with 2 50' straight-a-ways and 2 hairpin's. Kinda like Martinsville!
Anyway, it'll start good, idle good and is pretty responsive as far as the throttle goes. The only thing I can figure is it may be getting hot or I have a fuel line problem.
I have tried two different plugs... OS A3 and OS 8.
Any ideas out there?

hows its compression? sounds like the problem i had with my 12R SS when I let it idle during break-in. I had worn its piston and sleeve so badly by not letting it get hot and expand, that when it did finally expand, it was unable to stay running. Oh, it would start and run just fine until it got hot, then as soon as I let it come to a stop it would die. Sounds like piston and sleeve, but you can check by testing compression when its cold, then testing compression when its hot. Another thing that would be useful to know is at what temp it seems to start having trouble.

It could be the compression, and it might just be needle settings or fuel lines or leaking tank. Go thru and look for any other type of problem.

change all the fuel lines, its a cheap thing to do and definately will help if its as old as you say. Also, the age, it might jus need a new sleeve/piston from being used so much
