Quick Revo servo question
I want to go with a single servo, I know people use [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=001098883&I=LXUZ89&P=K]this[/link] one with good results, but you have to buy the optional servo horns.
Would this [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=001098883&I=LXDWF8&P=K]futaba[/link] servo work as well and then I will not have to by the optional servo horns. Thanks

You can use one side of that "red" servo arm for the 645MG, and pick up some additional steering throw by doing so. So much in fact you WILL need to cleaance the servo protector, and remove the steering "stops" completely.....great combo, and a few more bucks saved.

I would rather get the hitech, I didn't realize that you can use that red arm, would it be strong enough.
I might just end up bying the optional horns, I will eventually in up using them in the future when replacing other servos.
Do I "need" to get a stiffer servo saver spring when changing to a meatal gear servo?
Which side should I keep the single servo on?

Had to do a little hunting, but these are the servo horn instructions I gave indecline a while back...
"I'll try......see the stock linkage arm on the stock steerig servo.....measure the distance between the arm mounting screw center, and the linkage pivot screw center, you'll find that distance to be about 9/16". What we want is the 4 sided RED arm that comes withthe 645mg. you will notce 2 sides are thicker than the other 2....cut the 2 "thin" sides off now. Those are sides 2 and 4. You can also cut offside #1. What you are left with is single arm #3. Use your dremel to clean up,a nd round up the base where you cut the excess arms off. You now want to use the next to last hole on the outer end. Get a 3mm tap and drill set, drill and tap that hole put your screw in snug, thru the linkage ball, and use self locking nut on the bottom.
After powerring up, and centerring the servo, install the arm. SLOWLY turn the wheel and watch every part of the steering linkage...CLEARANCE, with your dremel or hobby knife ANYWHERE th linkage hits or bind on any other piece of the pastic frame, guards, stops....ANYTHING. DON"T just cram the steerng left to right.....slow and look, slo and look, sow and look...and clearance......I don' know how to make it any simper....where contact is made, clearance. "
It is a good idea to use the H/D spring, as the servo can overpower the OEM spring, then you loose steering effectiveness.
