I'll start this off with a photo of my 1/3 scale J-3 Cub, own design, Ceconite/dope covering, G-62 engine, 24 x 8 prop, 28 lbs. This is an excellent flying airplane, and now has about 300 flights.
Photo #2 shows the fuselage of my 40% J-3 Cub, own design, Ceconite/dope/latex paint covering, waiting for an engine. Will use a 27 x 10 prop - and weight about 42 lbs.
Note how much bigger the wings are when going from 1/3 scale to 40%. Both sizes shown standing against wall.
Photo #3 is my 40% wing prior to covering.
The plans are drawn for this 40% size airplane, and a complete 36 page instruction book with 155 building photos is finished. When I get an engine and get this bird in the air, it will be marketed in some fashion.

Hi Jim:
Beautiful pictures of your cub's. Have you ever thought of building a full scale. You know you are almost there. My wife is envious of your cubs I bought her one for christmas, just now finishing up. My first ride was in a j3, then bought a champ then a aronaca chief, good flying.

To yellerchamp: No - not going to build a real Cub. I am going to stop at this size airplane. The new Cub spans 14 ft., and my Stinson SR-10 spans 13.5 ft. That's about all I can get into my truck, with the tailgate down.
I had a PM from this thread starter, phicks. His name is Jamie and he is only 14 years old, about to be presented with a 1/3 scale J-3. Let's encourage him all the way. The hobby needs guys like Jamie.

This is my dad with our 1/3 BUSA Cub just before the first test flight. We test flew it before adding all the detail. It flew, let's say scale-like, with a G45. We made a list of a few things that needed to adjusted after flying it a few times including getting a G62.

The guy took off and landed several times. He was doing a very nice job in the high winds that day but ran into problems later on. There wasnt too much damage, small crack on wing at mounting point and a split in the cowl. Not too bad for as hard as it went in.
