the av8r uses a 12lb turbing and a 50oz fuel tank as you all probally know my question is how long on average will a tank of that size last

If you cruise at full bore, about 7 to 8 minutes from take off roll to landing (start up, and take off within a minute). The plane flies very well at 1/2 to 2/3 throttle, and you can go for a comfortable 10 minutes with fuel to spare.

I am using a WRen MW54, a RAM 500, FTE500, PSTJ600, SIMjet, etc should all be abotu the same I would think?

My Av8r
is set up with as SWB Mamba
The Engine makes 11.4 pounds of thrust
Fuel consumption is 6.76 oz. per min. at 100%
I have my jet set up with the standard 50 oz. tank and a 14 oz. tank on top of it.
and finally a UAT tank as well. witch I think is about 8 oz.
Totaling 72 oz. fuel on board.
Although I never did the math , you can see where ten min flights are possible at full throttle. however I have my flight timer set to 9 mins. and have never found the UAT to be less than full
when refueling.

I originally had a ram 500 on this jet and after the switch noticed better vertical and longer flights
Mostly due to less engine weight and better fuel consumption.
Check it out.
and good luck

Hi

I noticed you are from Calgary. If you are interested in looking at the AV8R and heading to B.C. sometime - stop in and you can see mine. I am also thinking about selling it to fund some other projects. Makes a great trainer jet off grass. I fly mine routinely off a 600 ft grass strip ( 4200 msl ) Call or email if interested

I have an AV8R powered with a PST J600 engine that has been flying all sumer.

also have a BVM Bobcat.
In my opinion, the AV8R is a good sport grass field plane that you can build in a couple of weeks, and cover with film.
I think my BobCat is much better for aerobatics, but it takes quote a lot more building,
and finishing.

just so you know...
the BVM UAT is 4 oz about 3 oz usable before air gets into the fuel lines

on a ground test I nearly got the UAT dry before air bubbles appeared

If you have'nt decided on an engine yet. Check out the SWB website www.swbturbines.com

Better vertical? My AV8R weighs 13 pounds, and with any of the 12 pounders you are going to have an excellent vertical The WRen in mine hauls it up and up and up... I dont think I would want to see how high either!

I by the way am using just the 50 ounce dubro tank and a BVM UAT for a header tank, no additional tanks in mine.

Whatever,,,3 or 6 oz - what is the diff
the point was balance and nose wieght , not the capacity of a UAT
Witch by the way was designed BY SWB and is currently manufactured there in Neenah Wisconsin By SWB and then sold exclusively through BVM

I agree with Ron,
The Av8r is an excellent choice for grass fields
I also have a BVM bobcat Xl with a P-120 for power. ..
I would consider it a Cadillac compared to the Av8r.
But I do like the Av8r as well
I would say the Av8r is a much beter choice for learning the ropes

And finally YES BETTER VERTICAL (AJC)
I often stretch the envelope with multiple vertical rolls, one of my favorite maneuver's.
Also,I have had the pleasure of trying different engines on this airplane and I can
tell you 1st hand. My 11.4 pound engine works better than my 12 pound. Simply because it weighs about 1 1/2 pounds less. Both engines run great..... Sometimes lighter is better
Just thought I would mention it.

My point was the AV8R will have excellent vertical with ANY of the "12 pounders" out there.

If your SWB weighs 1 1/2 pounds less than my Wren, than it weighs only .5 pounds???
