i have a 180 MAH, 20c dynamite battery for a losi micro. my triton charger allows for charging at 150 or 200 mah, not 180. so i figure i'll charge it at the 200 mah setting, a litle over 1c, i guess. is this ok?

Dont know what type that battery is....

the stock losi charger for the 220mah nimh at 0.4a thats nearly 2c....

If it a lipo, dont charge over 1c, might be ok on a larger battery but not on smething that small...

thank you. it is a lipo. sorry i did not include this in the message itself.

i'll take your advice probably and be safe, which i guess means charging at the 150 mah rate .... so, another question: when it says 150mah, that does NOT mean it QUITS, after getting the battery to 150, right? it just refers to the RATE of charging, right? right? and so, the 150mah setting will STILL put in 180mah, if that's what the battery takes.... or no? this lies in the area of things i sort of know, or maybe not....

You have it correct. It is setting the rate. Your units should read ma (milliamps) , not mah (milliamp hrs) I think I spelled those wrong. You are probably ok to do 200 ma also. The triton will turn off when full if all goes well.

Some tritons like the T-2 and the T2EQ set the battery capacity and that also sets the rate to 1C. In this case you can still use 200 mah and 200 ma setting.

thanks guvyer. so my 180 mah lipo, charged at the tritom's 150mah setting, will fully charge my 180mah battery, but at slightly less than 1c, i guess mathematically, at 150/180 c, or .8333 c, if my math makes sense....

From my experience i would recommend charging to its stated capasity... Because sometime they are wrong...

I had a 2s 4000mah battery. so i charged it at 4amps... according to the charger it hit just over 5500mah. If i set the cut off to 4000, it wouldent of hit 4.2v per cell. Since then even the manufacturer has realised its a 5500mah battery and have updated there stickers.
Its had nearly 50 cycles and still is rated over 5300mah... and i charge it at 5amps(my chargers max)

guver Sorry I respectivly disagree, charging that battery at 0.2a is over the 1c max charge rating (1.111111111c), sure its only a little bit over but its still over the limit by 10% Me personally i treat the Max charge rate as the max that i do not exceed it.

Not on the triton 2 or the triton 2 EQ. But even on those 2 tritons 150 mah is probably going to put the cell ever so close to the full mark anyways since we rarely use up 100% of capacity.

thanks! but now i'm confused.... so, the 150 or 180 or 5000mah, whichever, refers to more than just the charging RATE? it refers to how much charge, i.e., how many milliamps total, the battery will get? i did not know this.

It depends on which model triton you have.

history:

Triton original came out with unheard of features and accurate lipo and li-ion charge routines that many were completely unfamiliar with.
Triton green dot was the same with a few bugs fixed. Lipo memory bug and delay at start bug when "changing current on th fly".
Talk of a new Triton was in the air, many thought it was an upgrade.
Triton JR came out with lower power and options removed , but a great little deal in a small package.
Triton JR came out with ability to disable timer , many complaints about that timer.
Triton 2 came out with the same power 90 watts as the Triton , a new knob, 7 amp max instead of 5 amps and ability to charge Lipos at 7 amps instead of 2.5 amps. A few menus changed around too, but all in all it is nearly the same.
Equinox balancer comes out.
Triton EQ comes out that operates identical to the Triton JR , but with AC power and balancing.
Triton 2 EQ comes out that operates identical to Triton 2 , but with AC power and balancing AND more power.
Now the Triton ZX.

It's been a while , but I think the TEQ sets "capacity" and that forces the rate to 1C.

Setting 500 mah will charge at 500 ma.
