Quieting an OS 61FX
Can anyone recommend a muffler that will quiet my OS61FX? Or a suggestion how to quiet the engine with the stock muffler? Thanks!

RE: Quieting an OS 61FX
The fx muffler is pretty quiet compared to some others in this size range. One trick is to go up on the prop size to get the rpms down. Also some props are much quieter than others. The tips on some modern props are much quieter than the old square tips.

12x10 APC works very well and is pretty quiet. The O.S super quiet muffler also makes a noticeable difference although you can expect a very slight decrease in power.

A 12X10 is way too much prop unless, as OS indicates, your running a tuned pipe on it and this set up would be even louder than stock.
OS makes a "super silencer" muffler or just adding an exhaust diverter might help.
What db reading do you need to meet?

Hi,
Not enough info, How much ground clearence do you hane from the shaft to the ground? Why are you trying to achieve that low a db?
That low a db usually does not give you the power you want.
I have used a simitar prop to lower the noise, but the rpm's usually go up. So, the prop size should go up accordingly too. Coupled with a quiet muffler/ pipe, that should help you out some.
