i was thinking about making a track and having a small hobby shop in front do yall know the dealer order website?
or how do you become a rc dealer

i know that you have to setup the biz 1st, and get a Tax number(or something like that) before the big RC companies will deal with you.
they dont make it easy.
but the idea of having a track is good.
there were 3 small RC shops in my local area in just 2 years. they owners were good guys, but either did have the background or the money to make it work.
finally, we have an RC shop run by someone who knows how to run a biz and had the proper finances to start with.

it's hard to be an rc only shop. you need models, trains, puzzles, planes, rockets and alot more in order to sustain a business store front.

the good shop near me does everything, even paintball.

That's not necessarily true. If you live is a well populated area, or there aren't any RC-supporting hobby shops nearby, then you might have a shot. The closest hobby shop to me only does RC, and though they're not huge, they seem to be doing OK. They've been there for at least 5 years, so they must be doing something right.

But the main thing you need is money, and lots of it. Even a small shop needs to keep around $50k-100k of stock on hand, and that's not even getting into the costs associated with having a physical retail establishment. Good luck.

ofcourse having a track will be a major draw, i would say have at LEAST common replacment parts for racing.

and ofcourse electric only will only draw electric users, so try to make sure nitro is permitted

well were going to put a track of 10 acres my friend has behind his parents club place where they have kingcenyettas and parties
and there is a 50x50 air conditioned garage his dad said we could
so we have a 20 acer plot tahat his his parents club on it but the club only takes up the frount half  theres a 4 acer parking lot already a 50x50 garage we can use and we plan on having weekly races

It took me several minutes to work out that the word you were going for was "quinceañeras".

Again, I can't stress enough that to start a real business, you need a lot of money. It takes a big investment to start up a shop - even a small shop - and it will take years (if at all) to make it back. I'd start with just making the track first and see if there is even enough local interest to justify a store. You can build a track with nothing but elbow grease and perhaps some rented equipment, so even if nobody besides you and your buddy end up using it, at least you won't have dropped tens of thousands on the project.

Now days Horizon wants $30,000 for the first main order to become a dealer . Ten years ago it was only 5K and they have many new stipulations about how your building should be and where it should be .

That applies to new dealers and has been that way for a while now . Everyone before this change was grandfathered in and didn`t affect them . Myself and a friend contacted them about being a dealer through them . Great Planes is has a lesser amount but worked with my friend since the hobby shop is in the same building as their steel shop .

If they're going to give somebody wholesale pricing, they want to make sure that it's an actual dealer (who will place regular orders for restock) and not just some guy looking to get a bunch of stuff for personal use on the cheap. If you want to have a decent selection of parts on hand, $30k is probably the bare minimum you need to spend anyway. Like I said, starting a business like this isn't something to enter into lightly.

When I ran my buddy`s hobby shop [back when it was a 5K first order ] we started with 10K of product . We mainly just had RC stuff and 10K isn`t that much inventory , even at wholesale prices !

Yup! A decent amount of cash,credit line and a good business model,you also might try getting a small business loan thru a bank or the Gov. Right now that tmes are tight it might be tough to start a hobbyshop and be harder to survive,hobby's are something of a xtra luxury.You might even look into a coupl'a small business mgnt course thru one of the local community colleges,all these small things help.

Starting with a track is the best advice yet. There aren't really any good tracks in my area so I would check out a track only RC venue if one popped up in my area. If there are enough RCers in the area you might do OK with just a track. If you do really well it might not be that hard to open a shop, especially if you have low overhead.
