RE: Are they any good?
My son just installed the 4800 Execlorin in his Traxxas Slash. Took him a couple of days to get it dialed in or just plain working, but runs like a scolded dog now. I would guess 45 to 50 mph with a 7 cell battery. He's got a video of it on youtube.

alot of bad comments on Losi's electronics, better go with Castle or Novak.
VXLs are ok, but their ESCs aren't that great. But the Velineon motor is pretty good. Castle ESC + Velineon Motor = Perfect Combo

Interesting. What are the opinions regarding LRP and Team Orion brushless equipment? I personally have Orion in my B4 and have always been partial to LRP electronics in the past. The only weird thing I've experienced with my Orion ESC / motor combo is that it initializes and operates backwards everytime I power it on. Servo reversing the transmitter does turn it around, however, it then drives slow forward and fast in reverse. So, rather than reversing the transmitter I basically have to swap two wires between the motor and ESC everytime I turn it on. A bit frustating. The owner's guide only covers the usual stuff, power on the TX before the RX and the motor wires are interchangeable.

have you looked at tekin or quark? this is not the way to go if your are on a budget but these companies make GREAT esc and tekin makes outstanding motors.
otherwise i would either wait for the sensored mamba max system to come out or i would go with a mamba max/VXL combo paired with a 2s lipo.
and yes i have heard decent things about lrp systems, best of all most of them are waterproof.
maybe go with a lrp esc and vxl motor and be waterproof
