New DFTiVPro Question
I just received my new DF TI V Pro today and I am reading through the documentation.
The controller it came with is the HiTec Optic 6. My question is what model setting should I use in the HiTec?
The default is set to ACGL. Should I set it to HELI?
Thanks

RE: New DFTiVPro Question
Mo, you shouldn't have to do any programming in the transmitter. You should only be using the sticks, the trim levers, the power switch, and the top-front switches that control control sensitivity and Thermal Intelligence. You can make changes in the programming, but we recommend learning with the transmitter as you received it.

RE: New DFTiVPro Question
Thanks for the quick reply. I am somewhat new to this type of controller. I did notice that only two of the trims were set to zero. The other two were set to +12 and another was -4 so I set them to zero as well. Still have to assemble this thing. I will let you know how the test flights go after I take a few runs on the simulator.

RE: New DFTiVPro Question
Guess I should have left the trims intact. The design of the ping pong paddle looking camera board/battery holder on the V Pro is somewhat odd. The design of it forces you to place the battery off center and the V Pro pulls hard to the rear and to the left. Trims have to be set at +15 or more to compensate. I wish there was a way that the battery could have remained more towards the center of the DF to help maintan its center of gravity.

RE: New DFTiVPro Question
Hey MoBiggz, The Battery is being used as a counterweight to the camera and savs housing. With this balance, I find that I use very little trim when flying. You might check your motors to make sure they are level. This also makes you use heavy trim.

RE: New DFTiVPro Question
Ahh okay. I have not mounted the camera yet so that may be part of the cause. Also, this DF is not a SAVS unit - just the V Pro. Is there a difference between a SAVS housing and a DF TI V Pro housing?

RE: New DFTiVPro Question
No I do not. I called DF yesterday and spoke with Devon. He said that the board I have is a newer board that they are using on the V TI Pro's. It is the same board as the SAVS unit, it just doesnt have all of the same electronics as the SAVS housing.
He mentioned that I should place the battery as close to the center as possible. I tried that and it seemed to work a little bit better but I really didnt have enough room to test it out. I will try and mount the camera today and go somewhere where there is more room for me to test.
He did mention that they have the 12" arm kit for $119.95. For now I will hold off until I get a little bit better with this thing.
The first day I had it it was flying great. I had it at about 80 feet and it suddenly tilted about 60 or 70 degrees and went into the ground at an accelerated speed. I thought the thing was toast. It crashed in grass and it appears that everything word exactly like it was supposed to. I broke three of the landing feet, two motor mounts, and two of the carbon fiber support rods - not the main CF rods.
All in all - that was better than breaking the $400.00 component board. Beside, I learned how to sodder the engines and stuff.
Devon the crash might have been because I was using TI at dusk. I'll play around some more and see if I can get the hang of this thing. So far. not as "easy" to fly as I thought it would be. But the staff at rctoys has been very friendly and patient with all of my questions.

RE: New DFTiVPro Question
Well, let me suggest that you not learn to fly with that transmitter base attached. Did your system come with a plain CF battery tray? I thought they provided one in all of the kits. If not, I would definitely find or make something that was stiff enough to support the battery under the DF board and use it while learning to fly. Just velcro the battery in the center of the tray for the best CG.
As for erratic behavior right before dark, check out this post. I have mostly had perfect flights at this time of day but recently have experienced some minor motor pulsing. I think my motors are just worn out.

RE: New DFTiVPro Question
The DF did not come with a plain battery tray but it did come with a clear platic cover that is the same size as a plain battery tray. Maybe I will try to use that for now and remove the transmitter base.
