Default NiMH batteries for an electronic ignition ?

Posted this in batteries but no response yet; thought maybe the Gasser guys would know best!

Is it okay to use NiMH batteries for an electronic ignition on a Quadra 52? If so what would be the recommended size?

Note: having weight problems so trying to get away from my Sub-C NiCad to something lighter.

Thanks,

Sheldon - Goldwing

I've been using 1400 ma NiMH packs on two of my CH units for about two years now. No problems. Just make sure that you follow the Mfg, directions on charging.

Thanks,

I was pretty sure it would not be a problem but the NICAD's have such a higher discharge rate so I was not sure with electronic ignition if that was a big deal or not.

Thanks VERY much

This will save me almost a pound of weight! (Which is good as I'm a bit over weight - my plane not me!)

Goldwing,
How could switching to a NiMh save you a pound??? You better get a new scale. A sub-C pack weighs about 7 ounces. A NiMh pack is around 3. That saves 1/4 pound.

Is your other hobby fishing?

If you want to stay with NiCads, try out the new 1100 mah AA 4.8 volt packs. 4 oz. on my scale.

Geistware,
Why do you say that?

My current batteries are: Sub-C pack Radical RC 2400mah 6V Sub C NiCad RX Pack Weight 11oz. 5 cell 6V Sanyo CP-2400-SCR(sub C) High Capacity Cells. (The current Ignition is the 4 cell version of the same battery.)

If I change to the Radical RC 2700mah 5 Cell 6V NIMH RX pack Sanyo HR-AU 2700 NIMH Weight 193g, 6.875 oz. for RX and Radical RC 1650mah 5 Cell 6V NIMH Flat RX Pack Sanyo 6V HR-AAU 1650 NIMH. Weight 142g - 5oz for the Ignition.

My new total is under 12oz the weight. (Just about the weight of one of the two original batteries, and the batteries have higher capacity!)

OR If i can get away with the capacity (Great Planes Pitts) I would like to try two of the 1650's (might be pushing the capacity) and thus the weight only 10 oz total. (Probably won't do that)

PS: No hate fishing. (Sorry)
