Sounds like a problem I had, turned out to be one of the screws that hold the tail motor had come adrift alowing the motor to come away from the blade drive gear. relpaced the scraw, problem went away,

worth a check :-)

buy DD tail motor, and if you have the century gyro, make sure the C on the century label is the closest thing on the ground

Sweet! I've been paying $10 for these from my LHS. I'm gonna go brush my teeth right now.

Rob O',

Basic checks:

Checking Gyro:
[ul][*]Disconnect main motor.[*]Spin-up a bit just to see the tail motor turn. Then...[*]Rotate the heli to the right (clockwise when viewed from above), tail motor should slow, or even stop.[*]Rotate the heli to the left (ccw), tail motor should noticably speed up.
[/ul]
If the gyro checks fail, then you probably need to flip over your gyro.

Checking Rudder:
[ul][*]Disconnect main motor.[*]Spin-up a bit just to see the tail motor turn. Then...[*]Move rudder stick to the right, tail motor should noticably speed up.[*]Move rudder stick to the left, tail motor should slow, or stop.
[/ul]
If the rudder checks fail, then you need to reverse your rudder channel and check both the gyro and the rudder again.

Which way is it spinning?
Left (ccw): You need more speed on the tail motor. Motor may need to be replaced. But first try adding a ton of sub-trim (or regular trim) to compensate it out.
Right (cw): You have too much speed on the tail motor. Good news! Your tail motor is just fine. Just program some sub-trim (or regular trim) to make it compensate less aggressively.

OK if I use a toothbrush motor, what tail rotor do I use? Do I use a stock one? If so how do I attach it?

Thanks

Just buy a GWS DD tail motor from like Allerc.com or whereever with 3020 or 3030 rotors. Its like 10 bucks and comes with 2 rotors. . .

...Or if you already have the DD motor, your LHS will have the 3x2 and 3x3 props for about $1 each. The props have an interference fit to the motor's spindle. You can add a dab of CA to keep it locked on, but I don't.
