are duct fans any good?
hello i have crashed my blade cp a few times now and have broken and lost parts for the tail rotor and so i am looking to buy more parts. what i want to know is if the duct fans work any good becuse i think that would be cool to have that way i dont have to worry about the tail blade getting stuck on stuff all the time, they sell these duct fans at helihobby.com under upgrades for the blade cp. does anyone have one of these and do they work good?

They do work. They are cool. They do fit better in many scale looks.
But they are not as efficient as a bigger, slower turning prop, so you will see some drop in flight time.

I think the ducted fans look ass ugly unless you're using them in a scale body [:'(].
You're probably better off with a simple direct drive tail instead.

I really like ducted fans and I'm trying a few different kinds to see what works best. I like the look too! I tried using the stock brushed motor that comes with it and found it to be under-powered with my setup. Replaced the motor with a small brushless and I'm happy with the tail now.

I am going to be changining out the tail on my HBCP2 for a ducted fan unit, waiting for the fan mount to come. Do you need a seperate ESC for the brushless motor that your using in your ducted fan tail unit?

bfrunner ,
Yes you do need another brushless ESC for the tail. Also, I needed to tweak the programming (turn off the brake, turn on fast start and optimize for power) to get the best performance.

hah hah that's pretty neat. try to build a tail around it, so make the tail look like the commanche where the tail (duct ) is in the tail.

hello i just got my tail duct fan the other day and let me tell you that they are not very durable. i was flying about 15 feet of the ground when i lost control and so i cut all the throttle and my heli hit the ground tail first and broke the duct fan into 3 diffrent pieces but it did work alot better then stock befor i crashed.
