Default Danny - Digital Throttle Servo

I am debating over which DIGITAL servo to use on a throttle. I fly all gas engine planes and I'm starting on a 35% Extra with a DA 100 engine. I'm looking at the DS8231 Ultra Precision, or the DS8411 Ultra Torque. All of the other servos in all my planes are DS8411s. My feeling is the DS8231 might be a better servo for this item due to being more precise, but then again the transmitter has to be moved one full click so is this type of precision needed? I am only interested in digital - coreless servos. Give me some input please

Right now I'm using a Hitec 225MG servo in a 25% PW Extra and I'm not happy. It never returns to the exact same point at idle. It needs to be replaced with a digital JR a.s.a.p. All the other servos are DS8411s.

Default DS 9411

Hi,
I have a RadioCraft 35% 330 and am running a DS 9411 on my throttle. It's kinda like a low profile 8411 with a little less torque. It's a little lighter and you really don't need the torque of the 8411 although the 8411 would be a great servo and is. I use 8411's on all my controls except for the throttle. The 9411 has worked well for me since it's been installed with no issues as has all my JR Equipment. Hope this helps you. Danny will probably have alot more suggestions and help for you, but i thought I would just let you know ahat I was running and what has worked well for me. BTW, sounds like you have felt the difference! hehe

The 8231 or the 8411 would be a great choice. I use both of them for my models with great success. With the nylon gears it is a bit more precise and in that way would be a good choice over the 8411 for throttle since the torque and metal gears are not needed. I have not used the 9411 but it would be a good choice as well. I think you'll find any of these 3 servos to be excellent for the application.

Those servos would be a great choice but "Digital" is not required, an older 4131 servo you may have laying around will perform as well, if it is "set up right"! The set up is more important than the servo if we are talking the servo's listed. The throttle barrel requires virtually no torque to move it so there are more important things to consider!

Default Danny - Digital Throttle Servo

Hi,
I have found that the digital servos are more precise...moreso than even a 4131. The power is not needed, but the reason I use one is for the precision. It is also been found through others that when doing 3d that you feel more 'connected' with the plane. I've been flying the 9411 and it just feels better than the analogue servos. I guess you could say that I too have 'felt the difference'. It is the truth though...alot of people think it's ad hype...to that I just say *they* haven't 'felt the difference' yet. hehe You really can feel the difference in this stuff. There is nothing at all wrong with using a 4131 now...don't get me wrong. I think if the original poster stated 'digital', the reason was that he wanted very precise movement and good feel. I also belive a 3421 would be a good choice for a throttle, but i do have to say that I have not tried this, but am seriously thinking about it on my next project. It too is a digital and I have these servos in my Morris Knife with Saito 72 and they are doing really well. They are powerful and are holding up well, and I haven't babied them on that plane...belive me. I don't see any reason why that servo would not work either, and it would even be lighter than the 9411. That servo is also metal geared. It is a mini digi, not a standard sized servo.

For giant scale applications I would not recommend using servos such as the 3421 for throttle, as they were not designed for that level of vibration, and they can fail over time due to the vibration.

How about the 8101? Isn't it digital?

No, the 8101 is not a digital servo. The 8231 is the digital version of the 8101.

The 811 is a digital sport servo. It is a cored motor rather than coreless and uses a single ball bearing on the output gear.
