overcharged my battery
My car's battery was half used so I decided to charge it a bit. It's a nimh and I have a nicd charger. It takes 12 hours for a full charge, and I was gonna charge for 6 hours but forgot to turn it off. the charger doesn't turn off automatically, so it's been charging for 24 hours. The battery was not hot when I noticed and turned it off, it was cold. its a 1400mah 5 cell pack for my ravager. Will the battery be affected? Did I kill its life span or capacity? Or will it be fine? Thanks..

RE: overcharged my battery
guys, he said he charged a NIMH battery with a NICD charger! you shouldnt do that, you should charge the type of battery with the right type of charger. imagine charging a lipo using a nimh charger [&:][&:][&:][&:][&:]

Yes, a lipo would be plain stupid. This is a wall charger though, it puts out like 120 ma, not enough to harm it, and if he did it would be burning hot.

RE: overcharged my battery
I guess the smoke worked do not take my work for it email a battery manufactory and see what they say. If it worked for both type batteries why would they mark it one or the other but its your money not mine. All so two different type batteries charge at different rates.
Good Luck

RE: overcharged my battery
Charging 2/3 A nimh receiver pack with any slow charger, such as the 120mA will not harm the battery pack.
As for the statement that most nicad chargers automatically discharge the pack prior to charging, that's a load of smoke up one's backside. NO CHARGER AUTOMATICALLY DISCHARGES A PACK PRIOR TO CHARGING NICADS!!!!!! It's true that nicads should be discharged prior to charging. HOWEVER, the battery should be allowed to "rest" and cool to room temperature prior to charging. There are no Tekin, Novak, Integy, or Competition Electronics chargers that discharge a pack as the beginning of a charge cycle. My chargers will do that for conitioning batteries, but never for charging.

RE: overcharged my battery
my car is waiting for a head button, so it might take a while. Even when I get it, my battery usually lasts 2-3 weeks.
