Carbon Gear springiness
Carbon fiber gear bend and thats a way they relieve the stress put on the gear...
However, mine (Graphtec) dont budge so much where its that noticable unless if i were to really land hard.

Carbon Gear springiness
I have one of the Graphtech main gears on my Carden Edge and
I do believe they are regular fiberglass dyed black. They state
that their main gears are a composite, but they do state that
their tail gears are graphite. Regular FRP is much more springy
than graphite. chris

When you select material for a landing gear, you look for something that has good "spring" properties. You want it to deflect, absorb a lot of energy, and return to shape without permanent deformation or breaking. Composite fiber gear is a good spring and also very good for specific strength (strength to weight). However, there has been a problem with delamination of carbon fiber gear from various manufacturers.
Graphtech gear is carbon fiber, not fiberglass.

I will have to contact Graphtech about the glass/graphite
confusion on my end, but there is some sort of ink (Sharpee?)
on all their cut edges that comes off with acetone and keeps
coming off and off and off............. Delamination with graphite
is a resin issue beacause it requires a very high performance
type with a lot of adhesion (epoxy) to bond to the graphite.

have you ever cut one of them? I just finished to fit one from troy (graphtech) and the only carbon there is is on the outer skin. if he made those of pure carbon they would be a bit lighter and thiner. i wished they made them all carbon they would better, but still better than aluminum.
Bolly does make theirs of entirely carbon.

Carbon Gear springiness
I have a Graphtech gear and it started de-laminating at the upper bends. I e-mailed them. They e-mailed back and said they would send me another one. That was a month ago and no gear yet.
When I drilled the gear, it sure did seem to be graphite.

One of the dirty little secrets about CF gear is that they ALL will delaminate over time. How much time you have depends on how many hard landings you have. If you bang it in a lot, your gear may only last a few days, weeks or months. If you grease it on all the time it may last several seasons.

The 3 sets of gear I have bought from Graphtec are all Carbon Fiber - they were for the H9 Edge, the GP Patty Wagstaff, and the H9 80" CAP. You can see the laminations from the side and when you drill them for the wheel pants or the mount screws it is all CF dust and shavings - no fiberglass at all.
