RE: stock tmaxx tires
Proline Bowties seem to be best all around tire for me. I'd look at some & decide. If you run proline tires you HAVE to glue them to the wheels. Bowties rock on road to dirt !! Check out my post on my RCAlloys .21 ext.. It has Bowties on it, just so you can see how they look ...

They're at their best on dirt, or slightly muddy gorunds, they suck on pavement(smooth pavement) they work ok on rough or old pavement where the top is no longet smooth and the gravel is showing.

i cut up two sets of road hawg tires two make a rally type tread and they worked great, i cut out every other row on one set and every other lug on the other. the second set worked the best though.

RE: stock tmaxx tires
The stock maxx tires are terrible when they are new. They make the truck ride on the high points on the enda of the chevron treads. This causes the truck to be really squirrely. However, once they are worn down significantly, they work great. I run on pavement a lot, and have managed to wear my stock maxx tires down quite a bit. Now that the chevrons aren't humped up at the outside edge (because I wore them down by running on pavement a lot) they handle great. I would estimate that my stock maxx tires are about 75% worn and are finally handling very very well. once you wear them down, you get more consitent contact area and they also soften up a bit. You can always slice the high spots off of the treads, but it would be really hard to do this evenly. I say take your stock maxx tired to a local paved lot and run em like crazy until you wear the humps off of the corners and then you will have yourself a nice set of tires. Plus its a blast running high speed figure eights in a parking lot all day.
