Ace 1/3 scale Weeks Special help needed
Hi,
I just picked up a 1/3 scale Ace Weeks Special "fixer-upper" at the Perry Swap Meet. The model is complete, with the exception of the interplane struts. No plans, either, so I was wondering if anyone out there had a set of plans that could scan/trace and scan the plan view of one of these struts and email it to me. Also, whereabouts is the CG supposed to be on this model? Finally, is incidence of the top and bottom wings the same?
Thanks for any help.
Ed

I had one of these about 8 years ago. I had a sachs 4.2 in it and absolutely loved this plane. Mine was scaled out in the flag scheme. I wish I could remember where the balance was for you. I would love to have another one. It flew so nicely.

Hey, mstg. I have a Weeks Special, but it was built from the plans Miles Reed drew. Your question about the CG, it is located just forward of the rear cabane attachment. The plans show the bottom wing at 0, the top wing was -1. I built the first one, in '86, it was distroyed when the aileron on the top left wing fluttered, it broke both wings on the left side off, it was not pretty. I built a new one, that has 7 flights on it. I don't think I can scan the interplane struts, because they are glued to a template, sorry.

Thanks for all the help! I got a sketch of the interplane strut, which worked out perfectly. The wing incidence is right on at upper (-1) and lower (0).

Hello, gentlemen. I am also interested in your progress with the Weeks Special. Having built 2 of them, it will be intesting to see how you do.
If I could, one thing that I would suggest you do, is what I did to my last one. I built a hatch behind the firewall, and in front of the cabane. It's a little more work, but the benefits are worth the extra work, otherwise, anything that needs to be done with the fuel tank is nearly impossible. I also mounted the elevator servos back by the tail. My first one had push rods, worked fine but clutters up the inside of the fuselage too much, that is why I put the elevator servos in the back. I put a Sachs 3.2 on the nose, and in order to balance the plane, I was glad they weren't in the way, because I had to put the battery as far back as I could to balance it.

Hi All
I am glad there are a few out there with some intrest in this bird, I had one that I flew for 18+ years with a G-38 Great flyer but not a lot of virtical but for me it was fine.
any way about this bird I picked up at Toledo (will Post pic later) putting a YD-A 56 on the nose with a pitts muffler and that was the first challenge as I have never had an engine with a rear carb lots of hack and wack on the mounts and the firewall, Secound thing was figuring out how to do a chock with a servo not a biggy but new to me and of corse the throtle had to make a special arm on the carb.
Oh this bird is covered with non pigmented solor tec fabric

open your photo in the paint program. there is a resize in the tool bar on top. you can shrink your photos down about 80%. save them to a file and then re submitt them. The GreaTone, although very old and senile. Is a legend in his own mind, plus a democrat to boot, but he knows a little about those Reed weeks specials

Not a problem, Hank. I know you said it with a smile!!LOL!! 76 today, went out to the field to try my new sparky, slight wind down the runway, and not a soul in sight, just me and the whole field to myself! Hard to believe, there's 180 members and the field was empty!?

I hope you get to enjoy it as much as I have, Hank. As long as a man has his health, it's all good.
And of course a good hobby, like this.

Your both right on. Left cal in 65 and neverlooked back, and the MN winters give time to build or repair things and ***** about the weather
Now if I have the correct med's for my current problem I will try to get back on the weeks

3232, sorry, to hear about the meds, hope it can be rectified. I love to build, but for me it has been severly shortened, because in the winter, when I should be building, I don't have room. That's why I built my first ARF, and have not been sorry, exept not having the pride of building it myself. The Weeks is quite labor intensive but a real accomplishment when it's finished.
Good Luck, my friend, and like Jimmy V said, "don't give up, don't ever give up!"

Well as I said in an earlyer post this one was built and covered with an opaque white fabric, and looks good, all of the structure that I can see seams to be well built and stright, So now it is just mod it to my liking
Will post pic's later
