Default Hangar 9 Ultra manual gas pump

My Hangar 9 Ultra manual fuel pump will pump to fill the tank but it now will not suck fuel from the tank to empty it. Can it be repaired or adjusted or it's time to throw it away and get another.

Better to dispose and obtain another. They are pretty good hand pumps for gas but they do eventually wear out.

If it will pump to fill the tank there is nothing wrong with the pump. There is something wrong with your plumbing

It is a gear pump. to pump[ the other direction the gears just turn the oposite way.

Most of these hand pumps are identicle on the inside. The Great Planes, Hobbico, and Hanger 9 all have the same pump unit when you take them apart

I tend to agree with w8ye. Maybe your clunk line insode the tank is messed up? Generally if a gear pump works in one direction it will work in the opposite direction. You could switch the lines on the pump and see if the problem reverses itself (it should if the problem is in the pump).

Well the joke is on me as you are dead right. Checking on the tank's three line plumbing I found that the fill line dropped off the brass tubing as smart me never bothered to put a retaining barb on it.

Ya gotta love this hobby. I wonder how much time we spend chasing stuff like this.

I sometimes remove one of the lines from my Hanger 9 pump and spray a little silicone spary in it. So far it works fine. Another thing I do is never leave fuel in it. Hang it by one end to drip dry! Capt,n

So very true, plus sometimes we simply outsmart ourselves by the dumb things we do.

This made in Taiwan pump is a gear pump. the one side has a shim brass disk that is held against the gears by a rubber like ring. There are three screws on the pump that hold pressure against this rubber ring. If you tighten those three screws too much it puts excessive pressure against the brass plate and the gears will not turn. If you try to force the pump to turn with the handle, it will strip a gear tooth on the handle gear.

The pump is worn out when there is excessive leakage out the pump drive shaft.
