Replacement brushless for Speed 400 with 4:1 gearbox
Hi Everyone;
I am a long time model airplane enthusiast, 60+ years, 45 yrs in RC, but completely new to Electrics, and am not afraid to ask for help.
I have just purchased 2 beautiful DARE Kits, the J3 Cub, and Stinston, both have 60" wingspans, and should build very lite. The Plans and Instructions call for a Speed 400 motor with a 4:1 gear box turning a 10>11 x 7 prop. I believe the Speed 400 is a brushed motor, and cannot locate same anywhere, not even on eBay. What would be a suitable replacement brushless motor/gearbox-?/ESC/Lipo Battery-? combo. Many thanx in advance for your help, best regards from Glendale, Arizona,

400 gear replacement
Joe, the AXI 2212-34 is a real good replacement for the 400 gear drive it will turn the 10 and 11 in props no problem and do it using less energy than a brushed motor and that means longer flight time. You can use batteries from 1300ma 3s to a 2200ma 3s lipo, depending on how light you want your plane to be. I have been using 25amp to 30amp size speed controllers with the 2212-34. Of course there are other motor that you can replace the 400 with but this is a good one and I have yet to wear an AXI motor out. You wont need a gear box for the AXI 2212-34 it is a low kv motor and is made to swing larger props.

Hi Dr K;
Many thanx for your reply and chart. I am having problems reading your chart as the print is so small, and using magnifiers, and enlarging the print size on my PC only blurs same.
Could you please tell me where you found said chart; like is there a 'net' source for same? It does look like da 2212-34 AXI motors are the ones for me to use. And thanx for any additional chart info you can provide, best regards from a very warm Glendale, Arizona,
Joe Nagy.
