I have 5 vstanks which are almost perfect. But one problem makes them not so perfect is that the first running wheel can not touch the ground. At first I think that the tight rubber tracks cause this problem. But after I removed the tracks I found that the wheel still can not touch the ground. The picture from vstank.com illustrates the issue well as below.

After sawing the part in the red box off, I fixed the problem. Now the tank looks better.

Thanks so much for the tip, Type99! Were you able to fix T-72 in the same way? I always thought this was because of tight tracks. Now I know I was wrong...

does the KV 2 come with tracks of individual plastic links or one piece rubber tracks? Can I assume its an airsoft tank?

I`m thinkin that any 1/24th scale VS Tank you buy now will have the hard plastic tracks. In the last month I bought the late production Tiger, which is one of VS older models and I also got the Sherman which is a new model.....They both came with the plastic tracks. But the Tiger
track links snap together, the Shermans track links are held together with metal pins.

Yes, condor11, I fixed the T-72 in the same way. My Leo II A6 gets simular problem, but I have not fixed it yet. I think that it is a design flaw of vstank.

Hi, John, the KV-2 comes with rubber tracks. It is an airsoft tank.

As far as I know, the only tank that is now coming with plastic tracks is the Sherman.

Now both tanks look great! They show the strong feeling of very very heavy with all wheels touching ground solidly.

Hi, Tim, have you already got a Sherman with plastic tracks? According to the information on the vstank.com,only the Shermans of airsoft version will be shipped with plastic tracks. All the tigers arewith plastic tracks from the very beginning.

Oh for sure, the KV2 would make a great little, but very pricey target. lol I say blast the Pantiger you bought from me, or better still, have FT over again and finish off his t34/85. lol

Brilliant mod Type99! I've just bought my first vstank (T-72) and it's currently stripped down, mid mod.

If you don't mind me adding a few extra additions, I notice that after sawing the parts off, I notice that the tension of the springs would 'pull' the suspension arms, forcing the front and rear wheels to 'move down' when the tank isn't under load.

To rectify this, I wanted to fit a sort of stopper postioned just above wher the part that was sawn off used to be.

So using a 2mm drill in a dremel rotary tool, I drilled at 90deg to the fixing screw into the plastic collars and the suspension arms.

Then I fitted a small 2mm bolt into these holes which sits just proud of the collar (I'm going to post photos to illustrate all of this).

I'm now going to build some layers of plasticard which will be superglued to the inside of the hull just underneath these bolts. When the plasticard is built up to the correct height and the bolt is resting against it under spring tension, all wheels should sit perfectly level whether the tank is under load or not.

VS Tank fashion the wheels and suspension this way so as to make them neutral steer easier. With all wheels on the ground there is more resistance and load on the gears. The easiest and most realistic way I've found to deal with this is to just soften the suspension springs on all but the first and last road wheels. This way you get great looking realistic suspension movement while the tank sits at the correct height with all wheels touching the ground.

Totally get how fitting softer springs to all wheels (apart from the fronts and rears) will allow them all of them to make contact with the ground - a simple and easy solution.

However, I'm looking for as much scale accuracy as possible and with this method, the tank sits far too low.

Still trying to upload photos of the work I've done - just having problems getting a clear image of the small parts. Need to get a bette camera.

You may be correct then regarding the ride height. I've only done this mod on an Abrams which sits too high in the first place.
