Default Time to decide on an engine...HELP!

Anyone have any thoughts on an engine for a Pica 1/5 Spitfire? I figure its flying weight will be around 22lbs based on other modeller's experiences.

I want to be able to stuff it inside the cowl as much as possible.

So far I am looking at the RCS 180 for $345 :

Zenoah G-38 for $299:

or a US Engines 41cc for around $200.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...especially those that have built a Pica Spit!

Shortman,

I have looked at the ZDZ 40 as well but I'm guessing the top of the engine would poke through the bottom of the cowl. I have scale exhaust stacks that I would like to connect to the muffler and thus would like to route all of it within the cowl...would you recommend rear or side exhaust?

Scalebldr,

I have heard of the ST 3000 installations being somewhat underpowered. The 3250 is supposedly the same dimesions with more power. How much did your model weigh ready to fly? How much thrust does the ST 3000 kick out anyhow? Obviously I am looking for thrust at or somewhat below my projected 22lbs since I am not interested in 3D flying!

Thanks guys,

John

The G38 will be under powered at 22lbs. Had one in a 1/4 scale Fleet Bipe and it was barely enough for that at 19lbs.
