Default CG question

Just completed a Direct Connection F-18. I've installed the Century jet retracts for this plane.
Balance with the gear down or up?
When balanced with the gear down. When the gear is cycled up, it become tail heavy outside the CG range.
Any input would be welcomed.

I would balance just into the CG range with the gear up to avoid being too nose heavy for landing. Typically though, on a speed plane I like to run the CG as aft as possible.
