Pilatus Turbo Porter finally flies
Yesterday I finally flew my Pilatus Turbo Porter. She is 98" WS 72" long with an OS 1.20 for power. Servos are Hitec 605BB's. The first flight was uneventfull but scary, I had a lot of fun flying it around.

Vicar,
Beautiful! Was this a kit or plans built? Also can you give any information where a kit (preferably) or plans for this plane in a 91 4-stroke size may be had?
Great job and congrats on the successful maiden.

RE: Pilatus Turbo Porter finally flies
John,
My Porter was based on the Ikon N'wst kit. I bought it already built but in such bad shape that I basically had to reconstruct it all. The tail section and the nose are completely new. The wings were gutted and reconfigured to hide the servos and controls and a wing tube added. The landing gear and tail wheel are also new, my own design.
The kit is available at [link]http://www.ikonnwst.com[/link]. It is 1/6 scale and it calls for a 91-120 4cycle engine. It took off in no time and with very little power.

I was there for the first flight of this beautiful model. Vicar did a fine job of building (or rebuilding) this ship! Its a big plane that is indeed rather unique. It also flew very well; only problem was that Vicar was so nervous that the ground was shaking! Been there, done that. Notice that on the wing its says "Coqui"; I know what a coqui is, do you?

TreeTopFlyer,
Which tree tops do you fly out off? I do know what Coqui means, let's see who else knows...
Thank you for the kind words!

John,
You win! It is a little tree frog that makes the sound after which they are named. The logo I used is the Taino Indians representation of the Coqui.

Jamara has a ARF version that a 91 will fly nicely.
Have seen this used for glider towing and chute drop.

RE: Pilatus Turbo Porter finally flies
Jim,
Thanks for the info. I went to the site and they only had one left. This would be a down the road project for me, so it probably won't be available when I am ready.
Maybe plans would be the best route for me. Anyone got a source for plans?
Thanks,
John

RE: Pilatus Turbo Porter finally flies
I am going to order the MrAerodesign PC6 soon. He sells the plans and fiberglass parts-laser lizard cuts the kits. His Porter is 10 ft though. A little big for a 91.

The MrAerodesign site also has a link to a PC6 site with several model links such as this.

Hope this kind of helps.

RE: Pilatus Turbo Porter finally flies
Thanks TKS1,
I also found that RT models in Florida offers building services for the MRAerodesign planes. I have talked to Mark before on Anton's Twin Otter. I started building it from plans and need to finish it. I hear great things about Jesse at Laser Lizard, but have not used his services as of yet.
Cheers,
John

RE: Pilatus Turbo Porter finally flies
TKS1,
Please keep us informed of the progress on the MrAerodesigns project. That is a plane I wish I could build but I have size restrictions in the house. I have emailed with the builder that he shows in his website and he tells me (trought an english speaking friend of his) that the plane flies like the real one. He says it is not dificult to build, if I remember correctly, he cut the kit himself. The only thing I did not like about his' is the engine location, it destroys the looks.

I have one of the AMRF kits that Altech Marketing put out many years ago. Still flying it and it does get a lot of attention at the field. I believe I have the plans that came with it in one of the many boxes of old plans. IF so happy to copy and send on I believe it had the design all laid out even thought it was the first of the arf's. I fly it with and Saito 56, littel smaller that what you want but you could scale it up.
My wife is off to Holland in a few days and I remeber seeing a european kit the last time I was ther that is not brought into the states. I will ask her to stop in the shop and ask for the name of the company if it is still there, or if they know who the company is. ANd yes we do go into each others hobbies. I go to flowers shops with her she goes to model shops with me.

John, you don't want the Jamara model from that web site, anyway. The company behind it (Electric Aero Models or EAM) has dropped the Jamara line and doesn't support it at all. The company is in Germany, and doesn't communicate with retail customers (at least they wouldn't return my emails). The instructions for the kit are in German only, and apparently no English language ones are available.

RE: Pilatus Turbo Porter finally flies
[&o]I bought the Porter by Jamara from EAM R/C . I could not get any English translation or any support from Jamara. The plane crashed after several flights. It was an ARF and the wing had no hardwood spars, or sheeting, or sheer web between the upper and lower spars. THe wing broke on both sides at the second rib from the fuse while flying level at half throttle. The plane was a total loss.

Hola Vicar! Glad to see you in the picture, could hardly recognize you with the beard, hat and sunglasses, but I do remember the AMPS field, great bunch of guys. Congratulations on your new plane, looks very nice! Give my regards to all our good common friends, I miss you all very much, Walter. (I'm enclosing my picture just to refresh the memory), have moved to the Clearwater area 2 years ago ago. Best wishes good friend!

My Porter started as a kit from Ikon'n'Wst. Check it out at [link]http://ikonnwst.com[/link]. Another possibility is [link]http://mraerodesigns.com[/link]. There was one for sale here at RCU. Check out the classifieds.
