Default Repairing foam core sheeted wings

I crashed my Aeroworks Edge 540 ARF the other day. There are A few sections of the balsa sheeting that is cracked. Some on the upper surface and some on the lower.

Is it posibble to just cust out the damaged section and replace it or would this not be a strong enough repair?

Should I instead remove the entire balsa sheets that are damaged and replace them?

or

Do I have to remove all the sheeting completeley and recover from scratch?

Thanks

Shawn

I would say it depends on where the damage is. If it's outboard on the wing, or near the leading or trailing edge, then patching it should be no problem

Shawn:

On the underside of the wing, cut at least two 1/8"x 1/2"deep
by 6 or 8" long across the cracks. Epoxy in 1/8"x1/2" spruce spars
to repair the split foam and sheeting. The top surface should be
fine in using foam safe Ca to glue balsa cracks. When the balsa
splits top and bottom means the foam is split too and needs the
spars for strength.

The foam is not damaged. The wing got hit on the leading edge which buckled the sheeting in places. Here are some pictures of the damage

Bottom Side. You can see cracks in the leading edge and cracks which look like delamination of the balsa sheets.

Top side where I had to remove some damaged sheeting.

Just my opinion but no one solution fixes all problems. For your surface cracks I would just topiclly apply thin CA and use filler, for a joint seem crack that you can actually see or feel the foam is cracked go ahead and open it up a bit and use elmers pro bond polyurethane glue to fix. when it dries it expands into a hard sandable foam. I used it extensivelly in repairing a badly cracked wing to a Joss stick (sheeted foam) and it worked great. Also if in doubt thin ca lightweight fiberglass over the sheeting outwards of the crack an inch or so, sand and feather with filler
