Default How to take out transmission?

Is there an easy way to take out the entire transmission?

I just took the driver side chassis plate off to take it out.

Ya, so what's an easier way to take it out?

Also, is there an easy way to replace the brakes without taking out the transmission? I took the fuel tank out and the center skid plate, but it was still a little bit of a PITA because if the piston fell out or the shoes fell off the screws, then it was more of a PITA.

thanks for any input,
dan

I take the left side chassis plate off, then unscrew the trans from the right side plate, and there are two screws underneath that secure the trans to the engine mount plate.

You might as well just take the Tranny out and while your at it, just give it a good clean
and see if anything is broken...

well as is right now the brake lever has to be pulled very far forward for the breaks to engage so something is worn out some were and I can only think it would be the break piston

I am pretty sure that the brake piston does not rub on anything to make it go bad. And, the chances that your servo is strong enough to compress it are pretty slim. There is a brake lever mod on the HPIsavage forum that might be of more help. I am unsure of it location but I have seen it before. It just has directions on how to bend the brake lever a little to take away some of that slop.

Alright, so chassis plate=best way.

After my brake disc shattered, I put the piston back in properly and everything was back on as originally, but the brakes are pretty much locked, even if I move the brake lever in and out. Is the piston supposed to stick out a little bit or is it supposed to be flush with the case? Kind of pissed that I'm down because of this issue, but I may as well learn and get to learn the truck in the process.

there's a flat spot on the brake cam that the piston fits into.

Good luck, you'll figure it out

[sm=tongue_smile.gif] Already got that part, but it still doesn't sit flush with the case...is it supposed to or am I loosing my mind? Before I just tightened the screws holding the 3 pads all the way down and it was fine, but now I do it and the brakes lock up...Shims and backing out the screws are obviously the remedy, but why is it like that now when it wasn't before? Perhaps you're over-tightening the screws that hold your calipers on?

That's the thing though, they were as tight as could be before without any locking [&:]

I'll obviously loosen them up with possible shims, just wanting to know why they went tard

are the rotors or pads bent or deformed at all?

Reason for for taking everything out was because one of my discs partially shattered. It still has its form, but it shredded a little on the inside of it...crap I think that makes sense? Either way, there was one side that still kept most of its form so I tried tightening it there and still the same thing. I'll just see what happens when I receive my new discs soon.

[sm=red_smile.gif]

I've come to a conclusion on the issues.

When my brakes started to get a little sloppy, I took them apart and took that one spacer out that is supposed to STOP the two screws from going in all the way. WELL, I guess I didn't tighten them up enough to lock them while I drove it, but enough to put added stress on the rotors. When I was driving it and landed on the rear that was it and the rear disc just gave up and slightly shattered.

I installed new rotors and installed the washers and all is good. Richened her up for the 50 degree weather and she was driving like a champ! WOOT
