Who's going to Danville this weekend?
Is anybody planning on a trip to Danville this coming weekend? I have 3 new tank models that have yet to drive the 1/16 roads at the AAF battlefield so I am definitely making the trip.
It's forecast to be only a high of 50 degrees Saturday but since it's the last event of the year I have to make it!

I have a leopard 2 that has just been finished that I'd like to test out on the battlefield myself. Unfortunately Saturday I have too many family obligations. There's going to be a crowd on Sunday I will make the trip up.

I usually don't stick around for Sunday but this weekend Sunday is forecast to be 10 degrees warmer than Saturday and so maybe this weekend I'll make an exception since it's the last event this year.
Alex, what Leopard 2 did you build? Any photos?
Hopefully we'll see you there.

Built vers assembled is the question right ? Lol
It's a Taigen all metal edition with steel gears from the factory. I added a Clark TK80 board, upgraded to 2 speakers, DKLM metal turret rotation ring, rotation motor and their recoil and elevation unit controlled by servos. Set up is very smooth and sturdy from what I can tell. To give it my own touch I repainted the whole tank and did some light weathering. Cant wait to see it roll around the battlefield.
I also plan on bringing 3 of my tanks with me. Tiger 1, Panther and Leo 2. The last Sunday event I went to had about 10 tankers that stayed for the second day. Looking forward to it!

The event looks like it was well attended with some very nice looking tanks! I'm assuming the colored ball on the Tamiya Apple is the team designation? Just to impede "friendly fire"?
I hope to get there to battle at some point, just got to be able to travel. Maybe 2020 will be the year, I hope.
What "rules or guidelines" are used for these battles?
Thank you for sharing the pictures.
Happy Tanking,
Jim

Thanks Jim. Yes its alot of fun! Yes the color Dome on top of the apple is to identify by team. A few different strategies were played throughout the day. Such as last tank standing, split teams and they also mixed it up by having trailer recovery or respond using the trucks in one of the pictures. If you get a chance in 2020 it's well worth the trip. Great group of people!
thanks

Jim,
I hope you will be able to make it next year, Alex really hit the nail on the head when he said they are a great bunch of modelers! I have been attending their events on & off for 3 years now and have never had a bad day while being there. This last trip a fellow tanker took an hour out of his battle time just to help me learn to re-program my IBU2 board.
If you are able to make the trip plan on spending Friday, Saturday & Sunday to take it all in, it will take you a full casual day just to see the museum and all it's amazing collection. The battles start on Friday & run all weekend.
Hope to see you there next year!
