Default reinforcing firewall

If you are using a plywood motor box, I'd use balsa triangle stock on the inside of the box and were the box meets the fuse on the sides and bottom. Pin or screw the firewall to the motor box sides. I also like to use carbon fiber cloth and epoxy to cover the box. The result is very stiff and strong plus it also looks good.

Default reinforcing firewall

I always leave the engine box sides 3/8" past the firewall. Then I can glue 3/8x3/8 hardwood sticks to the front of the firewall and the box sides as well as triangle on the back of the firewall glued to the box sides. Now the firewall is captured and won't (can't) go anywhere.
