Default Gee Bee Y

I'm in the process of completing a gee bee model y. The so called kit was an Ikon n'west.92". I am installing a 3.2 Walker-Sachs. Has anybody ..........surely!!..........built and flown this kit??? I would like to have any heads-up information that anyone has to offer on the quirks etc. at flight. I have taken SO long to build this 'bird" that I am beginning to get cold feet!!! All input is appreciated. Tell me about your motor-size, prop size, etc. Maybe lots of backup will ease my nerves. Thanks, Riley

Default Gee Bee Y

Riley:

Cold feet and knock knees are a part of this hobby. No matter if
you spend 20 hrs. on a new arf or 820 on a scale like yours, the
feeling is the same. The end of my antenna jumps around from
hand shaking nerves everytime I launch a new plane.
If you've flown any plane in the class of the Ryan STA or the new
WM Super Sports Senior, then your "Y" shouldn't handle any
different. Is this your first biggie gas plane? From experience when I change from my 40/60 size glow then fly my 1/3 gas that
the first couple of landings are always in the fringe grass on the
far side of the runway due to change in scale. (or is it that 22/24"
prop) I'm sure you'll get replies from the stretched GeeBee pilots
that will help calm your nerves. If not, do you have a high vaulted
ceiling where you can hang it and admire your work?

What do you mean this so called kit? Was it tough to build? I have been thinking about this kit for a while or would you suggest getting the new ARF? How much does your Y weigh? Any info would be cool.....
